Plan Salamander: the USMC vs Pirates edition

As it should be done - all you had to do is ask.
U.S. Marines early Thursday boarded and took control of a German-owned commercial vessel that had been attacked and captured by pirates, in what appeared to be the first American-led military boarding of its kind amid the recent surge in piracy along the east coast of Africa.
Real good detail over at USNIBlog if you haven't seen it yet.

hoo-rah.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone (with a better memory than me) happen to know when the last time was that we actually used Marines for their original historically intended purpose like this?

Beware ye scurvy pirates!

BTW, seems merchant ships are developing their own set of counter-piracy tactics.
Call of distress, shut down engines, then hole up in a secure cabin. Its good the pirates dont know how to operate modern big merchants...
Another btw, another regular has his birthday, and that would be me :)
thanks to Byron and AW1 for the wishes online...
