The Atlantic Fleet has not learned the painful lessons of Pearl Harbor. With it's concentration at Norfolk it is inviting a crippling strike.
..."there was forged a will for complete and absolute victory over the forces of evil."
One would think we still would. Instead, the preponderance of our media and our education system spends its time telling us that our sworn and mortal enemies are NOT evil. NO more evil than we are, at any rate.
Oh, but for a time machine to suddenly send those America-hating self-loathing cowards into the ranks of the Bataan Death March.
A tip 'o the hat to the survivors, and the whole generation for that matter. Fate put me at Pearl on the 50th anniversary, with Pres HW Bush in '91. Will never forget the parade, and meeting so many of the 'boys', now getting quite old, and they knew their gatherings were numbered. Thought of 'em today, realizing most I'd met are long gone, 19 more years on. On the way to work, checked the 'net, and nary a reference, and they school chil'run, reported nothing from the skilled educators either. Sad, indeed, but lessons that should never be forgotten by all.
Saw the flags at the local high school at half staff. Someone here remembers....
Who would have thought so many vets would continue to hallow the Harbor by having their remains buried at the Arizona memorial. A touching tribute that says everything that needs to be said about the term "shipmates."
Fortunately - I do believe there are others who don't need the media mention to remember this day.
I wish they would also note VE and VJ Day. And the anniversary of the largest naval battle ever fought.
On two occassions I've been to Pearl, and regardless of whether today is remembered, the continued strong attendance by tourists say that the battle has never been forgotten.
I watched as USS Nimitz rendored honors to ex-USS Arizona in 2003 from ex-USS Missouri. Very, very moving

The Pearl Harbor Survivors' Association is still very active here in Puget Sound. They hold an annual wreath laying up in Everett that is hosted by one of the DDGs or FFGs there. The local print and TV news media always cover it as well as the ceremony in Pearl.
one container ship loaded with club-k on the deck is all it takes...
It is doubtful.
