So close to being honest. So close.
From the History of the Navy Total Force: 2008-2011; behold all that is unclean and weep for the beloved Navy.
We understood that attracting and recruiting diverse talent was necessary, but retaining a diverse workforce and providing opportunity for promotion and advancement was equally as important. We worked closely with the CNO to establish annual accountability reviews with each Navy enterprise (e.g., submarine, surface, aviation). During these reviews, the enterprise leads discuss the diversity within their communities, and any barriers or challenges they face. Can we talk like adults? What the above says - in almost realspeak - is that while they have done all they can do to recruit non-white males, we are having trouble getting them at higher levels of leadership in the "proper" numbers to feed the CNO's fetish.
We also established a series of evaluation metrics to be reviewed and discussed during the accountability reviews, allowing us to effectively track progress according to established goals and measures of performance. Metrics include overall diversity, promotion diversity, retention diversity, and key/nominative billet diversity.
As a result, we are going to hold warfare communities accountable for meeting our quotas. If they are not meeting them - we are going to tell them where they need to actively discriminate based on race, creed, color, or national origin in order to reach them. We will - in a non-merit based program - provide opportunities to some and take opportunities from others based not on performance, but on self-identified racial/ethnic classifications that meet criteria established by the grievance industry.
Every step along the way, we are going to track numbers for our approved racial/ethnic groups. We are going to reward and/or punish leaders based on their ability to meet their quotas. We not only want them to discriminate when they rank people, we want discrimination to take place in the detailing process to those "select" jobs. We want them to do everything they can, give as much special attention as possible, to convince some to stay more than others - again based on race and ethnicity.
There - happy? Proud of our Navy and its retrograde policy of active discrimination?
Dishonorable, dishonest, and to the fair minded who believe that all men are created equal and should be judged by the content of their character - and not the color of their skin: disgusting.
We are a better people and a better Navy than this.

I truly wish the political officer would come into my world and try to "hold me accountable" to an unConstitutional and thus illegal quota, I mean, order. This will be reversed by sensible leadership or eventually in an ugly court battle that will make the Navy look incredibly stupid. I'd love to see the lawyer for the Navy making the arguement that racism is both good for morale and makes us a better fighting force, scratch that, a better force for good.
I'll be happy to give up my reserve IRR commission if needed to reduce the numbers of plain, nothing-special white-guys....
In the civilian industrial world the effect of such policies on promotion from the shop floor and promotion from within has a simple, bitter, formulation..."anybody but a white boy". Now there has been discrimination in the past, but - "two wrongs do not generate a right" or to be more explicit, two injustices do not create justice.
Once the deck plate level sees the game (and they do pretty quickly) loyalty to the institution and an obligation to pass on the lore of the craft to the next generation evaporate.
The notion that the ocean and the enemy do not care about your pedigree and lie in wait to destoy the ignorant and foolish, so promotion should be on the basis of ability and knowlege, for reasons of simple self protection, is not much spoken of in the new modern politically correct world. You know, meritocracy as the key to survival.
If one self divides and then competes, the competition takes advantage of your gift to them of their first step to greater power and prosperity, and quickly moves to the "and conquer" phase.
Ladies and gentlemen of the active duty force, you are all in the same boat. Start acting like it or accept defeat.
Ozmanias. Coming to a Navy near you. Because those whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad.
Another very sad day in the life of the USN. At least we know Mullen is on his way out - one down one to go. Until that time, we (the USN) will lead the way of active discrimination and dishonor. No wonder our service is such a mess.
Time for my morning vomit. Thanks Sal - it was a good good breakfast. >:o
Do you think someone appointed by Obama/Mabus will be anything other than another 4 star bootlicker?
I retired from the Navy before this really took hold. In my current company, as far as I can tell, in the hiring/promotion process we are gender/orientation/ethnic/race blind. We choose who is best for the job based on their achievement and ability. But you must be able to speak english and maintain a security clearance.
What would Dr. King say?
Racists!
Don't expect miracles with the departure of CJCS and CNO. It will take a full 30 years to right the ship and get rid of the excess oil and waste slop. And that's if we are lucky and recognize very quickly the folly of the present situation.
I used to say that one of the goods things of my time in the Navy was the color blindness of the institution...measure the quality of a shipmate by how he does his job rather than the color of his skin or where he went to school.
Now that is not the case. Sad. How do I get my color blind Navy back? Because rest assured that the Sea does not give one flying fig that were are a diversified global force for good...she only respects those who know their craft.
I once worked with a CEO who responded to the latest Diversity Clown Consultant by asking her to demonstrate the financial value of diversity in hard numbers....ie increased stock price for companies that practice diversity as compared to those who did not.
After watching her twist in the wind with various non-answers he suggested that until such time as he was presented with financial reason for doing diversity, he was going to stick with the tried and true method of looking for the best person for the job as opposed to trying to satisfy some diversity requirement. He then got up and left the meeting.
The odd part was that this was a company that was probably the most diverse company I have ever worked for. But it was still not good enough to satisfy the diversity bullies.
When will CNO realize that under his rules he'd have never received an Academy appointment?
A modest proposal: Perhaps the Navy can justify diversity financially by making the non-white non-male employees work longer hours for less money. That would lower operating costs and make diversity a cost-effective maneuver.
err, recommend a do-over, DB. Just sounds a litttle wrong. I know it isn't how you meant it.
Well, bonus! A good breakfast you get to taste twice!! Just think if it had been a bad breakfast. :)
Haha... it's exactly how I meant it. :-D
Just pointing out that the only reason one could justify "diversity" as a financial benefit would be to revert to hideous retrograde real racism and discrimination. Otherwise there is no financial or operational benefit to using skin color or ethnicity as a justification for manpower decisions.
The oxygen that feeds the flames of PC in the political class/masters who insist on this insane crazyness is the deluded belief that nuclear war is "not going to happen" (so we might as well reward our political base as reduction in combat effectiveness means little in the long-run and the political payoff is big in the short-run) because of a) our nuke deterrent (ha ha--good luck there. Obama is lowering the threshold by eliminating wpns as fast as he can but the useful idiots are too stupid to realize it) and b) China has "too much at stake in commercial trade" --forgetting the "minor" historical fact that England and Nazi Germany were each other's largest trading partners in the 30s. It is going to LITERALLY take the loss of a CVN and 5000 lives before they wake-up--but by then it will be too late..
PS: Just ANOTHER reason to DOUBLE the ration of Barbancourt 5-Star Hatian "Rhum" in my morning coffee..
Accually if you look at the Stories coming from the Chinese state media and others ment for home consumption it seems Chaimberlin is alive and well within the US political system.
We stress the idea that China is a loving Panda like country! Full of kittens and light.
China makes video games where the sole perpose is to stop a US invasion.
We tell people china would never attack the US or anyone. Meanwhile Chinese jets and ships harrase anyone they please in international waters in the pacific.
The US may not want a war with China. The Chinese people may not want a War with the US. But by god i think the Chinese Communist Party does. Just like i figure many Germans didnt in the 1930's.
Are you sure? Look at his spiffy uniform, coiffed hair, and fashionable eyewear...hmmm. That one, he's a looker =-O
It boils down to the fact that we - those for competence and merit - need a respected champion for our cause in the political arena, in the media arena, in the public at large arena, and if we can find one or two, GOFO's in the leadership arena. I have no faith in the Obama/Mabus cabal currently at the helm. There are plenty of good people in the Navy of all colors, but mostly blue or shades of blueberry. Until the climate of entitlement and resentment changes, we have to move forward presenting the idea, the true idea that all that matters is competence and merit. The sea gives and it takes without respect to who you are or what you are. You live by the grace of God and your skills. From your training you know that your enemy has to be objectified into nothing more than something/someone who is in the way of your completing your mission. No color, no ancestry, just an object. The enemy behind the rifle trains the same way; to them we are all Americans. Psyops views it differently, but where the lead meets the forehead, we are all the same. Just keep telling the truth and presenting the facts (pesky things) and eventually, and hopefully, we will win the day before we have to pay a price too large for the excesses of a false religion. Equal opportunity does not guarantee equal outcomes.
Had a classmate in flight school who ate bananas before flying - because they tasted the same in either direction...
Tomorrow at the Navy Memorial we will all march down and form up in a "Sea of White" to commemorate the Victory at Midway. It is so disheartening to know that we will sit through three and a half worthless speeches (Coast Guard, Navy, Chaplain and Half of the Marine Corps Representative) that have more to do with today's politics than they do the Victory, the Sailors and most importantly, HOW AND WHY THEY WON. Then we will file back to the Pentagon, the Navy Yard and the Naval Annex, and continue on our merry business of destroying the Navy by purchasing worthless "don't call me WARSHIP" ships, half heartedly instituting fortune 500 business practices and presiding over the destruction of the integrity of our asencion and promotion processes through the capitulation to the Diversity Dynasty. To have these men and women standing there at the podium putting us through the paces and ignoring what made the Navy great back in World War II is just disgusting. Don't pay lip service. And, God Help you for dragging the ever shrinking number of MIDWAY heros out every year when you are destroying what they paid for in blood.
sure enough, prediction came true. Additionally you would have thought we were all at a funeral and not a victory party.
SG,
Don't forget that with Midway, we were able to bring the USS Yorktown in in a dry dock and in little over 72 hours have her back at 85% operational capabilities on the way out the door ready to fight again. Could we even do something like that in today's yards?
SAP - if left to guys like Byron and his ilk, yes.
If left to bureaucrats and unions it would take a minimum of 3 years and require the cancellation of the Essex build program at the same time...
A better analogy might be WWI - neither side particularly wanted war, but by the time all the wheels were in motion no one could actually stop it. The tyranny of timetables and bureaucracy...
My take is rather Japan before WW2 - aiming at regional hegemony and colliding with US freedom of seas/trade... but I'd watch first for some showdown with minor/declining power a la 1905... Funny thing Russia does seem to fit the bill again...
