If Perry runs ....

... I might have to shift my support from T-Paw to him.

Why? Simple - we have similar tastes in toys.
Perry ... carr(ies) his .380 Ruger - loaded with hollow-point bullets - when jogging on trails because he is afraid of snakes. He'd also seen coyotes in the undeveloped area.
...
"I'm enjoying the run when something catches my eye and it's this coyote. I know he knows I'm there. He never looks at me, he is laser-locked on that dog," Perry said.

"I holler and the coyote stopped. I holler again. By this time I had taken my weapon out and charged it. It is now staring dead at me. Either me or the dog are in imminent danger. I did the appropriate thing and sent it to where coyotes go," he said.

Perry said the laser-pointer helped make a quick, clean kill.

"It was not in a lot of pain," he said. "It pretty much went down at that particular juncture."
...
The governor left the coyote where it fell.

"He became mulch," Perry said.
I'm sorry - how can I not vote for him?

I've been voting for him since 2000+.   Y'all should have the same fun.

While there are those who take issues with some of his decisions... governors have to make painful budget choices.  On the whole he's just a very positive, straightforward man.  I was hoping he'd run for president in 2008.

Some of the other candidates are being criticized for being bland and colorless.  Texans never have that problem...

He was not in danger.  That is just silly.  That coyote wasn't going to get him.  The dog, however, was in danger.  At my house I had a coyote and was thinking about the bow to get her as firearms in the subdivision were verboten.  Then I realized my husky was VERY willing and quite able to take the coyote out.  One walk in the woods w/ the husky and it was a done deal.

DeltaBravo said...

Lt B I respectfully differ.  Rabies is always an issue here.  A coyote bold enough to not run away in broad daylight...  might have other issues than being a simple varmint.

Read the article.  He shot it to defend his dog, not him.

As for 'yotes - shot on sight.  No questions asked for any reason.  They kill dogs, cats and there are too many of them.

LT Rusty said...

Meh.

.380's are for chicks.  Real man would have used a .45.  Or an axe.  Or strangled it with his bare hands.

What happened to you, Texas?

(Side note: Ruger capitalized quite nicely on this event.  This particular pistol is a Texas-only edition of the same kind of gun that Perry used.)

Hollow points for snakes?

UltimaRatioRegis said...

Maybe they have little helmets on...  or very long flak vests.

DeltaBravo said...

Texas snakes are different...  ;)

LT Rusty said...

Most autoloaders don't like snake charmer rounds.  Besides, there's plenty of other things out there besides snakes, and a JHP will do for a snake just as well as it will a Coyote or a mugger.

I've been voting in Texas longer than Rick Perry's been a Republican.  Perry's good at dishing out red meat to his base, and in a year where the GOP base is angry and wants to make a point, that's probably enough to win the nomination.  It will cost the GOP the White House in 2012.  He's a skilled politician, to be sure, but his Texas swagger is just a little too...familiar.

DeltaBravo said...

Swagger is better than bowing and scraping any day.

I am not saying that he shouldn't shoot the Suuuuuper Genius.  I'm just saying he was fine.  We shoot them at my buddies ranch to keep them away from the calves.  I have never felt itimidated by them personally, but knew they would go after my dog.  Reason enough, no need to say he was in danger.

Sal will shift his vote when GEN Mattis runs.

We have TONS of them in tennessee i believe the 20 dollar bounty is still good per head.

They eat and f**k everything. Mixtures between them and wolves or dogs mean some mean SOB's

DeltaBravo said...

James... LtB doesn't understand what a practiced politican Rick Perry is.  He's a west Texas boy who went to A&M.  His natural cohorts are people who understand what lowlifes coyotes are.  But he knew his audience was Austinites.  And those were the people who were watching the news that he had a GUN!  and he USED IT!  Horrors!  =-O   He had to explain to the dilettantes who walk their bichons through the upscale green neighborhoods of Austin that he was doing the RIGHT THING to shoot a GUN.  See?   Everyone else didn't need 'splainin'....

So he had to make them understand his dog was in danger.  Then they might understand his radical cowboy maneuver.  This was a soundbite for the home team.

I agree with Phib that Rick Perry would be a big improvement over Pawlenty, although TPaw is a well qualified (if very bland) candidate.

Bachman is a contender.  Palin would be great but is so beslimed by the media she is unelectable.

Herman Cain is interesting, but lacks experience and/or understanding of the political games.

Huntsman is a worthless self serving RINO politician closer to a Democrat than a Republican.

Romney is too "moderate" for my tastes, but far better than the incumbent (as would be any of the large Republican field.)

Newt and Santorum- nice guys but quit now, along with that wingnut from NM guy and goofball Ron Paul.

Gotta go get one of those Ruge LCPs as a carry gun option to what I normally have.

SCOTTtheBADGER said...

You may keep your Ruger .380s. I shall continue to use a HK USP45F.

roger that. lol  I didn't really need the justification.  I'm just glad the coyote didn't drop an ACME anvil on his head!  :)

As for me, I have trouble getting past the whole "Al Gore's Presidential Campaign Manager."  I mean, a gig's a gig, but ...

Or the "Indestructo Steel Ball" he sometimes rode around in.  Sounds like  a DARPA funded project.....

If the Austinites fell into a swoon over this story about a poor widdle coyote and a big bad gunslinger, then this proposal ought to make them go absolutely apoplectic.

Too bad y'all can't open a wormhole and have Austin teleported over to the SF Bay area where their fellow travelers reside.  Then again, I suppose evey state needs a designated spot for whackjobs...around here, it's a big building that has five sides... :)

CDR Salamander said...

Jog with it.

LT B said...

I typically carry a Sig .40, but that is a beast to go running with.  Any more weight or impedance to my thump/drag/wheeze runs and I fear I won't make it through the workout. :)

LT B said...

My feaking Husky is a natural enemy.  She went after the coyote and the pups.  The coyote dug a hole and pissed in it outside our back door.  That was enough to drive the husky into a crazed, frothy nutball (more so than squirrels).  Who am I to deny nature's circle of life?

Anonymous said...

If someone finds that wormhole send it this way, pleeze? We'll need to dangle some baits in front of it.

And they run our suburban streets from twilight and overlap when some of the younger kids ma still be out.

I was in a half mile stare / walk with a pissed off motheryote on a way to my fishing spot, 10' surfrod in one hand and bogagrip in the other. Thought I was going to need to defend myself and wishing I had a gun. But I did have a tide to catch.

I have a hard time getting past his logic to veto a bill that would ban texting while driving on public roads because it "is a government effort to micromanage the behavior of adults" while at the same time he supported the government forcing parents to immunize their children against HPV because said children might get the STD when they are older.

CDR Salamander said...

Your Husky may be one of those Alaskan lines that had some wolf--cross in it inside the last 50 years.  Nothing hates a yote more than a wolf.  When they re-introduced wolves to Yellowstone the yote population cratered.  Talk about genetic grudge match.

LT B said...

Not certain.  She has papers, but she is just dog aggressive except she loves our other dog.  The problem was the yote was eyeing the puppy as lunch.  That was not sitting well w/ Mama Husky.  Loves people, ESPECIALLY protective of babies, but does not play well w/ other dogs until she is good and aclimated to the specific dog.  Then G2G.

Salty Gator said...

personally I like the ranger double barrel in .45 / .410ga for snake killing.  Accurate, the right caliber, and the right weight.  If you miss with double barrel .410 ga, maybe you deserve to be lunch.

Salty Gator said...

My girlfriend owns a .380.  Good call, B.

Although she never served in the military.  Most chicks I know who have shoot at least 9mm.

Salty Gator said...

Had a pack of coyotes triangulate me and a few friends when we were camping out in the California High Desert.  They were seriously outmatched.  We had AR's and Mini 14's.  After the first two rounds went down range (they snuck up to 25 yards on us!), the rest took off.  one CK.

Salty Gator said...

if you are interested in the reintroduction of coyotes to new englad, do a quick internet search on the reintroduction of cougars / mountain lions to pennsylvania.  I can tell you, FOR A FACT, they are there.  While I never saw an actual mountain lion, I have seen their tracks, and definitely smelled their urine.  It is UNIQUE to say the least.  The bear population currently outnumbers the deer population in some parts of apalachia (FACT), and the reintroduction of cougars should prove interesting shortly.  Bob cats are already there and multiplying fast.

UltimaRatioRegis said...

Those things are no game at 29 Palms.  Many a time there would be half a dozen or more skulking around.  And if one thinks they don't attack people, they are much mistaken.

UltimaRatioRegis said...

I can think of a cougar I would love to have prowling around New England.....  (c'mon, did you think I WASN'T gonna make that joke?)

DeltaBravo said...

Coyotes are the terrorists of the canine world.  Like pirates.  Al-Qayote needs to be killed where you find'em.

And wouldn't it be cool to have a president who talks like that.  Announcing the death of someone like Zawahiri "He became mulch."

As for the vaccination thing... that was something I disagreed with, as well as a whole lotta other parents.  Believe me he was attentive enough to put that idea back where it belonged after people pointed out its many inherent flaws.  He didn't ram it down the throat of an unwilling state and tell us he knew better than us how to take care of our children.

THAT WOULD be an improvement over the current president.

He's no GWB - now that man was a Texas governor to beat all Texas governors.  Perry does got better hair though - I'll give him that.

I've PT'd with a 5" 1911 and / or a 92SF.  What's your point?

Impressive, 'cept for the .380, although it can do the job. Still like T-Paw, and support him, but his aim, well, it's not what's expected in the deer woods.

Not to disagree wth the gov.  I like his style, but I miss the old days http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_mzLagHJOI&feature=share
I would like him even more if I thought he was a fan of this movie.

To answer your question: Because he doesn't have W's gravitas? Another way of saying how deficient he is across the spectrum is that, in Sparta, he would have been left in the hills to die after birth. Perry is a complete waste of oxygen. Only a Texan that can't think for himself would have voted for him. That said, FOX News will pump him up into something he hasn't yet been: Competent.
