It's funny... But, do you know how hard it is for the lookouts to get binos, sometimes? We used to have to sign for NVGs after Seaman Timmy on my old ship lost a pair in the drink.... lol.

Ayup. True in the Corps, too.
Supply Officer motto (If I knew Latin I would translate): "If I give it to you, then I won't have it."
A sharp supply officer would include both the NSN and the serial number on the hand receipt...
As the QM Div RPPO and the guy who got his butt chewed by the Navigator when Title B stuff went missing/overboard/busted/whatever, I concur with YNSN. And it wasn't just the lookouts dropping binos over the side or in the sail. We had a JO lose a pair over the side, too.
BTW, binoculars are not good to test depth. I know this. :(
Keeping track of binos was a royal PITA.
