That noise you hear is the steam coming out of Captain Honors's ears.

They REALLY need some liberty.... like a couple of weeks in Subic ;)

very cute!

But if it were a US ship, in 5 years half of them would be DFC'd out of the blue for being in a  shower/in drag/simulating nudity/appearing to have fun on cruise.

Has a familiar ring to it....

in some ways, that statist/socialist Europe somehow manages to keep more freedom than supposedly "land of the free"

I love the body messages at the end.  Clever clever!   They don't look completely sick of each other yet.   Have a cheery Christmas, HMS Ocean!

You are so right, Ewok!  All it costs is national sovereignty, personal liberty, values, morals, and...oh yeah......"life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

But you keep telling yourself that.  We should so like totally be more like Europe.

So, I am guessing the CO and XO were relieved for approving this video which was clearly trying to improve morale.

Oops, I guess that would be in the USN as the RN has a sense of humor.

I need to stop letting myself key in to JS Kit as Adversus Something Something.  When you shorten it you get "ASS."  Sheesh

It is awesome to have good friends like these on the high seas.

That makes any kind of joint comment from you, me, and "NAnonymous" as coming from "URRNASS"

Not surprisingly....  :-P

ASS,
(too late)

Actually, E40 is right in some aspects of their life.  As a result of not living under the 5th estate of masses of ambulance chasing trial lawyers, you can do things there you cannot here.  You can climb all over ruined castles and D-day sites without everything being fenced off and "DANGER" tapes all over the place.  Entire classes of kids will go on field trips and do things they would never do in the USA.   Kids can have a beer or a glass of wine at 16 with their parents and not have a busy body across the street call the police of Child Protective Services on their parents.

That being said, they do not have the same freedom of speech that we have.  Their governments, especially as related to the EU, are not responsible to the citizen. Except for the Finns and Swiss - the people are largely disarmed, so they are very vulnerable to being vicimized by totalitarian governments or foreign invasion - as they have seen in living memory.

They have some smaller freedoms to a greater extent than we do - but when it comes to the greater freedoms; we do have them beat by a bit ... for now.

That is EXACTLY why I retired.  My CMC called be a dinosaur for not being able to come to grips with (his words), "the new politically correct Navy".

I never thought there was anything wrong with the ENTERPRISE videos, a little off-color, but intended for a restricted audience and not the general public.

Anyway, remember our troops who WILL NOT be home for Christmas.

Notice the resemblance?  Coincidence???  I don't think so!

Actually I'd love to have a freedom to shoot a rifle on a nice weekend morning - but I doubt even universally armed population could stop a rolling modern mechanized army. Ask Boers how it went for them. and that was BEFORE tanks and airplanes came... US didnt need to land single man onto Japan to crush it's resistance.
As for the EU, I am all for creating more links with citizenry, from directly elected by citizens President, to more power to tthe EU Parliament over the Comission - which in turn should eventually morph into normal federal cabinet, responsible thru Parliament to voters.
As for the freedom of speech, the biggest subversion lurks in the form of organised Islamists, but so far the proverbial Danish cartoons are still out.
One of the greatest strengths of democracy imho is it's ease of fitting into local cultural environment, be it the rebellious free-roaming US spirit, a nation-state centered European form or Confucian-influenced models of Japan or South Korea.
And it isn't like US democracy didn't have fits of quite bad ideas - making entire USA alcohol-free via constitutional amendment was amongst worst I remember...

ask to Boers how that went for them?  Sir, I highly challenge you to reexamine the Boer wars.  It was not a cakewalk for the British.

Anyway, I think this will be my avatar for the foreseeable future...

Heck, you don't have to go that far back.

Didn't Jean Francois Kerry make a trip to Paris to confer with the North Vietnamese in 1972.  While still nominally in uniform?

I think they closed the Christian Science Reading Room there when the fleet pulled out, so it may not be the same.

What WILL we do for fun on Magsaysay Street now?  ;)

ewok40k said...

cakewalk or not, Brits won :P even if it took forced relocation of civilians into what become known later as "concentration camps"

Why yes. Yes he did. Teddy Kennedy had some correspondence that wasn't cool with the Soviets, too.

Hilarious!  Thanks for sharing it.

Oh, by the way...was that a bathtub?  I wasn't expecting to see a bathtub on a naval ship.

Memo to Captain from Legal Beagle
Captain
Regarding the Christmas video:
1.  way too many nipples displayed.  Sexual harassment.
2.  Cross dressing.  Sexual harassment part II against the LGBT sailors.
3.  Most have no rhythm - racial harassment forcing minorities to watch that sordid dsiplay of "dancing".
4.  Word "Christmas"  truncated to "Xmas" - religious harassement.
5.  No snipes or chops in the video - ratings harassment.

I will prepare your resignation letter accordingly.
