I went to Still On Patrol, looked at the photo of my Dad's cousin, Lt. Francis Riley, lost on the ALBACORE.  I would have liked to have known him

And for the young men, the sacrifice continued with the wives that they didn't marry, the children that they didn't father and the grandchildren that they never held on their knees.

God grant them honored repose, and God grant that this nation continues to raise up men who will fight its battles and defend us from harm.

I had to spend some time at the VA today, and afterwards, I went out and walked some of the Cemetary.  The Boy and Girls Scouts planted 30K flags yesterday.  I strighted a few that weren't veritcal, swept some grass trimmings from some headstones and watched some people, generally alone, putting out flowers and standing/kneeling for some time at obviously special people's resting places.

Made notes of one man:  Clarence F Swanson.  USN Coxswain, PVT USMC - WWII.  Born 9/29/1909, Passed 6/29/1997.  He'd have been "Gramps," no doubt, to his shipmates, but he was in the fight.

I'll be back tomorrow for the ceremony and to visit the man who flew gliders.

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We shall remember them."

Yes, I was.  Back again this AM.  3000 chairs set out and they had to pull out more.  I stood, didn't mind and wanted to anyway.  Walked among history and shook a few hands, made a few freinds.  Pics to be posted later this evening at the blog....
