At Pearl Harbor, during the attack, CASSIN and DOWNES were in the same dry dock, albiet side by side, right in front of PENNSYLVANIA. This CAN'T be the first tandem docking.
Badger - you are correct. I guess two DD's and a BB doesn't count - only DDG's. I work with BAE ofter and they do like to toot their horn a lot ;)
Regardless, it is very cool and a nice piece of work by all. A long day to say the least.
First, next time I am in a bar, I will ask the first lovely lady I see if she would like to be the first for "tandem drydocking".
Second, how quickly we forget. Six of 'em. Count 'em, SIX.
Except for the cobalt and solvents in the drinking water, Murmansk looks a lot like Vermont.
First DDG 51 tantem docking. Still, events like that remind me why I became an EDO.
First DDG dual drydock, nope.
USS DECATUR and USS WADDELL dual docked in Puget Sound Naval Shipyard during the Summer of 1979, (and sadly stayed there all that long cold wet winter.) I'm sure there were more. It was no big deal when we did it.
BAE needs to get a clue.
If they had come in under their own control, well, that would impress me.
I was on Cassin Young DD-793 over the summer while she was in DryDock 1. I may have seen a kayak around too - does that count?
URR, what a beautiful picture of six stunning LCS's as-they-should-have-been-made!
Ain't it the truth? The AA armament of these things was several times more powerful than the LCS. Not counting the 5x5"/38s, and the torpedo tubes....
Have to say... the speeded up video/pics make the little Scuffy the Tugboats look like so much fun!

Side note - how are you folks doing up there for snow. I'm two ACLs removed from skiing but used to go up there a bit.
Ski areas got some. Good conditions of late for making it, too. We could use a break in the snow/rain pattern.
Wet summer 2010. Brutal winter last year with lots of snow. Wet spring with lots of flooding. Wet summer. Hurricane and lots of flooding. Wet autumn.
The water table is about six inches down. We get major snow and we are in trouble.
Yeh, you guys had it rough in August too. My uncle sold his house on the Battenkill in July and the new owners all but lost it to the remnants of Irene.
long beach had 5 ashvilles in drydock 2 (one of the smaller ones) at the same time.
made for interesting scheduling meetings.
