Free from the union nomenklatura ..

Hey; Mass. lawmakers do the right thing. Nice.
Language added to a supplemental budget bill that passed the House and Senate yesterday would exempt high school ROTC instructors from having to pay “agency fees” to local teacher unions.

The exemption was filed on behalf of U.S. Marine Maj. Stephen L. Godin, a junior ROTC instructor at North High School in Worcester, who has objected to requirements that he pay an agency fee to the teachers union. The fee is charged to teachers who are not in the union and therefore do not pay union dues.

Senate minority leader Richard R. Tisei, R-Wakefield, who is a candidate for lieutenant governor, tried unsuccessfully last week to add the language to a bill protecting health care workers. He resurrected the exemption yesterday, however, and tacked it onto a supplemental budget bill enacted during informal House and Senate sessions and sent to the governor for his signature.
Hat tip Maggie.

Can we make politicians who show real leadership "endangered species?"

Thankfully, ther's some left.

GOOD!

If enough people stand up and fight stupidity, we can sometimes overturn it.

Just sitting back and accepting stupidity should never be an option.

You know, I could have sworn that the NLRA not only provided protection for the Unions against management, but also for those you didn't want to be union against the union?

Or did I miss something here?

LT Rusty is partially correct.  There is no additional law needed here; Communication Workers v. Beck, 487 U.S. 735 (1988) ruled that objecting nonmembers cannot be required to pay union dues. The most that nonmembers can be required to pay is an agency fee that equals their share of what the union can prove is its costs of collective bargaining, contract administration, and grievance adjustment with their employer.  In this particular case, very little to no cost can be associated with the Major because of his military benefits.

Hey...

At least y'all are not FORCED to pay union dues...even in a Right to Work state, and even if not a memeber...by the Railway Labor Act.

Sucks I tell yah.

What this nation needs is a "National Right To Work Act",  which makes it illegal to require membership in any union, association, or other group, or to require monies be paid to any such group, as a prerequisite to employment.
