I don't care who you are, that's funny!

Since when hasn't his pitch been WAY to the far left?

Way to inspire more black kids to play baseball.

"No way!  I'm sticking to basketball and football!  I don't wanna look like a spaz!"

DeltaBravo said...

Ahh!  You got to it first.

Combat NFO said...

I'm not sure what people find funny about that, unless people are just looking to laugh at the President.  If all you're doing is looking to make fun of, and laugh at the President, the country really has changed.  Those with a military background, should really consider what it means if they're just looking to laugh at the CINC.

Lobotomized said...

His putting on the Sox hat is kind of how he's doing his job.  It doesn't matter what the crowd wants or is supporting its all about ME - in your face politics.

UltimaRatioRegis said...

CNFO,

What's a polite way of saying "Blow it out your a55"?

honu said...

another way to look at it is he's sticking to his beliefs and not pandering to the crowd or latest poll.   but he should stick to basketball.

Combat NFO said...

Hit a little close to home?  You're welcome to mock the President as much as you like.  I just find it interesting because it signals a pretty substantive change in the political discourse of the country.  If you want to mock, just to mock... go for it, but you should be aware of what it means, and what it says about you.

Byron said...

Well, since my old and sometimes dim memory still remembers the MSM taking Bush over the hurdles for much the same thing, and that of course the lapdogs won't say a word about it today, it kind of leaves it up to the good CDR have a laugh on the Won.

Byron said...

I knew I should have jumped on the 1MC called "Stand by for heavy rolls!".

Butch said...

CNFO - you'd have more credibility if your outrage weren't so selective.

Let me see if I understand you.
Republican President - It's okay to mock, insult, & ridicule him.  Dissent is the highest form of patriotism.
Obama  - There is nothing funny about him.  We must be respectful of the office of President.  If you disagree with his policies, you're a racist.

I second URR.

UltimaRatioRegis said...

Butch,

You hit the X ring.  GWB can be mocked, denigrated, called a terrorist, hung in effigy, compared to Hitler, and threatened with violence (Landrieu), but laughing at BHO because he throws like Betty-Lou Sisterpants makes you a terrible person, changes the discourse of politics, and renders you apparently unsuited for military service despite 28 years in uniform.

Casey Tompkins said...

Not only that, Butch, but note his claim "<span>I just find it interesting because it signals a pretty substantive change in the political discourse of the country."</span>

...As opposed to calling your opponents "bitter clingers," teabaggers, or white supremacist racist bigots. Or lying about claimed assaults.

At least Dubya got his pitch over the plate. Come to think of it, mocking the president has been a tradition in this country since George Washington.

My first reaction was similar to URR's: man, he really is far to the left, isn't he? ;)

Casey Tompkins said...

The truly funny part is that when asked about his favorite White Sox player, he couldn't name one!

Westpac Warrior said...

Pitches about as well as he bowls.

Combat NFO said...

Butch, What outrage?  I'm not outraged at all.  Make fun of the guy all you want.  I didn't see the comedy in the video.  Perhaps others found it funny, but I just see people using it as another opportunity to ridicule someone.

Combat NFO said...

I didn't say you were a "terrible person", or that you're "unsuited for military service".  Nor do I think that GWB should be mocked, denigrated, called a terrorist, hung in effigy, compared to Hitler, or threatened with violence with those in our military, or connected to our military.  If there is a substantive concern raise it.  Like I said, if you just want to mock someone for how they throw a baseball, you're entitled to it.  Mock away, but don't be surprised when someone questions your motives.

jscam87 said...

Excellent call-back!

jscam87 said...

I have always had the right to laugh at people's gaffs.  SNL has made an industry of it, and recently included this President, much to the improvement of their ratings.  Wearing the SOX cap was just odd.  Sort of an in-your-face move.  Then to find out it was just a move, not supported by any Presidential loyalty to the SOX team was and IS laughable!
For the whole NFO title you put up, I don't know how you missed the Focsle' Follies, unless you YOURSELF had no respect for the ADM, CO, BOSS, CAG, etc... That, or you are saying you never laughed...

jscam87 said...

A 'little close to home' sure didn't describe Obama's pitch!

Combat NFO said...

<span><span>Yup, I'm well aware of Foc'sle follies.  Was this a parody of what the president did?  I thought it was the actual president, throwing an actual baseball.  Hmm, perhaps I did miss something.  Was there sarcasm in the video that I didn't see?  Was there latent bitterness?  Did he joke about being extended on cruise?  Was there something mockingly funny in the video, or was the video just of a guy throwing a bad pitch?  Would it have been funny if it was a baseball player throwing a bad pitch, or was it only funny to a certain group because it was the President?  Would it have been funny to the same group if the President was from the other party?  If no, then perhaps people are just looking to make fun of a person, and the situation wasn't really funny.</span></span>

Here's a foc'sle follies video that's reasonably funny for you:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yj23YQ22Vqk

Notice that it isn't just videos of the ADM, CO, CAG, Big XO, Squadron CO's, AIRBOSS, AIROPS, etc.  It's a parody of their actions.

CNFO, lighten up Francis.  Forget politics for a second and look at it for what it was - a self-proclaimed "athlete" serving up that looping cheese to the plate....weak sauce!  If you are any kind of sports fan that was funny, I don't care who was windmilling on the hill.  Again, lighten up. :-D

GBS said...

If memory serves, Bush could throw better.

Casey Tompkins said...

Ok, I'll give it a shot.

First, he slaps a White Sox cap on while throwing the first pitch Nationals' opener. Can you say "tone deaf?" As I mentioned in another comment, I had already heard that the Prez couldn't name one single White Sox player, despite his claim he's loyal to the "home town" team.

Then, he throws like a girl. As others pointed out, he's supposed to be an athlete.  I'll give him this, it looks like he did throw from the mound. :)

Finally, he literally is a leftie! That by itself should at least get a chuckle. And -considering his throw- he really is "far-left," at least if you go by his throwing arm.

That's funny, right? Er, I mean left? Ok, so it wasn't Mel Brooks, or the Marx Brothers... :-P

Hold on, here's another one: if he pitches policies the same way he pitches baseballs, it's no wonder his approval ratings are down! (budda-boom) Thank you, I'll be here all week.

Great line from 'Major League' - 'juuuuust a bit outside'

Thank you very much - I'll be heading home now.

Combat NFO said...

Francis?
Wow, lots of insult slinging going on today:<span>"Blow it out your a55"</span>
Questioning my name: "<span>For the whole NFO title you put up"</span>
Questioning my credibility: "<span>you'd have more credibility if your outrage weren't so selective"</span>

Was this one funny too?  It was high and right, should I be laughing?

CNFO,

Not sure how long you've been around, but as Americans we have always had an inalienable right to mock or laugh at politicians.  Whether it was mocking FDR for being an elitist snob or making fun of Gerald Ford for being clumsy Americans have long expressed our freedom through laughter.  Ford was probably the best athlete to serve as president, but he took the jokes in good humor.  Does humor sometimes cross the line?  Sure, the critics of Abraham Lincoln, in my opinion, went far beyond the edge of decency.  However, I'd rather put up with the ugly humor (whether directed towards the guy I support or the guy I oppose) than give up any of our freedoms.  We are not Venezuala or Cuba  (yet) where the people are afraid of mocking their political leader.

XBradTC said...

I'll cut O some slack on the ball cap- he used to represent the SouthSide. There'd be riots if he wore any other cap.

But if CNFO can't find the humor in that terrible pitch, from a supposed athlete, I can only say I feel for his squadronmates that have to share a readyroom with a man with a terminal humor deficiency.

gmac said...

Snickers...
Maybe you were asleep durring the previous administration and just missed what passed for humor from the left side of the aisle.
Otherwise I'd say you were a humorless troll with thin skin.

DeltaBravo said...

"Lighten up, Francis."

It's a line from a movie.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrllCZw8jiM

It's cultural shorthand for a lot of things.  ;)

ActusRhesus said...

I'm a girl, and I resent that. I could get it over the plate.

ActusRhesus said...

as has been pointed out, *this* from someone the media anointed as some sort of god of fitness.  lulzy.

I bet AR can throw better than him.  :)

LT B said...

That WAS the actual President throwing an actual baseball, but I would not say that was an ACTUAL throw.

At least he didn't wear a Cubs hat

C-dore 14 said...

Granted I'm glad never to have been put in this position but this "pitch" looks like it was made by somebody who thought "how tough can it be?" and made the mistake of going out there without a lot of preparation.  A few years back, the CO of the good ship CARL VINSON was tapped to throw out the first pitch at a Mariners' game.  He was smart enough to practice for several days with a catcher from the ship's baseball team to make sure he could get the ball across the plate somewhere in the vicinity of the strike zone.  His work paid off and he didn't look foolish (which was his biggest concern).

Yep, this is the reason it will take me about 30 days or so before I wonder back to this blog.  Sure wish you would stick to the professional issues of our service and not get "down in the mud" of politics. It brings out the worst in an otherwise outstanding group of blog followers.  See you in about a month.....

DeltaBravo said...

Aww, Jimmy, you hurt our feelings here! Because politics has absolutely NOTHING to do with any of the military services.  Nope.  Not at all.  Not the funding, not the base closures, not the troop support, not the deployments...  you're right.  It's all politics-free.  So it should be ignored as non-essential.

As for that pitch... it's not his fault.  Poor Pres. Obama inherited the pitcher's mound from the last administration.

UltimaRatioRegis said...

See you next month, Jimmy!  Meanwhile, here's something to contemplate:

Combat NFO said...

Jimmy, It would be nice if it was at least void of personal politics and personal attacks.  I guess that's too much to ask.

C-dore 14 said...

You know, it is a funny video and I think Obama's got a good enough self-image to handle a few jokes about a bad Opening Day pitch.  Not sure I could do much better.  However, I bet he wishes that he'd spent a little more time up at Camp David tossing the ball around with his Secret Service Detail.

LT B said...

Wait a minute!!!  I have to question the FO's credentials.  I have yet to meet an aviator that couldn't recognize a movie quote in a millisecond.  How did you NOT pick up the Francis reference?  An aviator that doesn't watch movies all the time, that is crazy talk. :)

C-dore 14 said...

LT B, Apparently you've never been to a Mariners' game when Carlos Silva was pitching. :)

Jimmy,
I am sorry that you have lost the ability to enjoy one of the basic pleasures of being a citizen of a Representative Republic.  We do not have to act as if we are in fear of our Chief Executive.

Excessive deification of a sitting Chief Executive is as unseemly as it is unhealthy for a free people.

Some times a video of a guy throwing a ball is just a video of a guy throwing a ball - and at all times it is great to be an American and to celebrate that gift those who came before us gave those who followed.

Enjoy your month in Turkmenistan, we look forward to your return.

Might not have been a pitch, but it made me hurl after watching it..... ;)

A month from now will be mid-May.  The sun will be shining, and it will be warm. The Good Host here, being a Salamander, is an amphibian, and therefore cold blooded.   When the sun shines down on him on his rock, here in Salamander Swamp, the warmth will soon have his brain going along on all cylinders.  THEN, we shall see some real Salamander Snark.  Even I, a Badger, a creature whose photo is in the dictionary as the illustration for the word, 'cuddly', am looking forward to that.

During last night's Mariners home opener broadcaster, Dave Nehaus was needling Randy Johnson asking if his ceremonial first pitch was a "58 mile an hour fastball".  Johnson responded, "Yeah, just like the President's."

Combat NFO said...

Now that's funny.

<span>Largebill,</span>
<span>"Not sure how long you've been around, but as Americans we have always had an inalienable right to mock or laugh at politicians."  Where did I say it was inappropriate to mock or laugh at politicians?  This was just a video of him, it wasn't a parody, mocking, or a comedic interpretation.  It was a video of the President throwing a ball.  I didn't find it funny.  The baseball players response, referencing the President's pitch was funny.  Watching Ford fall down stairs is physical humor, watching a crappy pitch really isn't funny unless it hit the catcher in the junk.  The knee jerk response of "we're not Venezuala (sic) or Cuba" is kinda funny, but it's more troublesome than funny, in my opinion. </span>

Combat NFO said...

<span>LT B, If I didn't recognize the source, how would I know it was derogatory?  "Blow it out your a$" is a movie quote from Blazing Saddles, should I interpret that as friendly because it came from a movie?

I always liked the Bloom Country strip back in '84 (if memory serves), where Binkley starts hyperventilating about who the Meadow Party should nominate; "We should have hired an amiable old ex B-movie actor ... We should have called Fred MacMurray!"
