BG McSoulpatch arrested by FBI

Remember him? Well, our friends at ABC 13 in Houston have some news for us.
Michael Patrick McManus was arrested Friday night after a federal judge signed a warrant for his arrest. The FBI says he was arrested without incident.
A blog reads like an old time wanted poster: Wanted for stolen valor. Do you know this man? Reward.
...
The FBI now identifies the man in the picture as Michael Patrick McManus. We tracked McManus to an address in Houston where we attempted to get his side of this story on at least five occasions. A man who answered the door the first time claimed the man in the picture wasn't him.

However on another visit, another man at the house told us the man in the picture has lived at the address. Neighbors said he sure looks like the guy in the picture.

"He was always kind of strange," said one neighbor.

The pictures ignited a flurry of bloggers attempting to figure out who was parading around town as this highly-decorated war hero. They pushed to expose what they see as improper and illegal, saying "the violations of uniform regs are legion" and "This is illegal as per the Stolen Valor Act and this guy needs to go to jail. This has been a cancer for a long time, but with the internet we can do what other generations could not."
...
McManus is now in federal custody charged with stolen valor. He is scheduled to appear in court first thing Monday morning. The Army is also investigating this incident.
This was a Joint operation between milbloggers, the traditional media, POWNet, the FBI, and mostly you - the readers of milblogs.

Thank you for helping bring this guy in.

...one last note as I stick out my bottom lip like a 4-yr old; that "quote from a blogger" that is, ahem, unidentified - yea -
that's me.

No luv for 'ole Sal ... again.... but the blog did get a little facetime on the video .... but that is just being petty on my part, again.

Bravo Zulu to all involved.

UPDATE: An update on the story from ABC-13.

Hey Salamander, let this stand as a warning to these types.

BLOG JUSTICE IS HARD JUSTICE.  (sound effects of cell door slamming....)

Woot! Good Job, Sal. Always nice to see a little justice.

And it is especially sweet he got busted on a Friday, giving him the chance to sit in jail over the weekend. Enjoy the baloney sammich, "General"...

Bravo Zulu, indeed.

Thank you for staying on top of this.

Outstanding Gents!

It's true that he'll be sitting in a holding cell till Monday morning since he was apprehended on Friday. Most judges don't sit on the bench over the weekeends. So, "The General" will be not even be booked until Monday. That means he be sitting on a very uncomfortable bench in a cell. Until he is booked and remains in holding, he won't have any bedding and very little peice of mind. Any of you guys ever been thrown in the drunk tank for a weekend stay?...That's exactly what's happening with this guy as you read this.

Remember, the Judge won't be in till Monday...and then you have to see how full his docket is for that day in question.  So our Jackass General might be in holding a day or two longer, legal work load not withstanding.

I suspect we'll see what happens early next week.
I'm sure it won't be too difficult to pick up on said intel.

Nice catch Gents!!

Was ChinPatch McTurd wearing a CIA ball cap when filmed at the door? There's no end to his play acting.

Very happy to see he gets to face justice.

Did you notice the gay rights sticker on the front door?  He probably thought he was wearing a "fabulous" costume!  :)

It's too bad Sal didn't get the credit for this loonie wannabe getting his just desserts. Integrity and follow-through is outstanding, thanks for raising the alarm on this one. Hopefully he will sit in the can for a long, long time.

HAHA  sucka!  Maybe we do have time for a little jibber jabber, or fixing it!

Blogging IS the new Mainstream Media, and the old media is playing catchup!  Good job Phib!  You get Rope Yarn for the rest of the week!

I noticed the following in the article:

1.  Phib's webpage and blog thread was open in the broadcast and the driving force behind the capture.

2.  The = sign on the door.. clue number 1 they have the right address.

3.  BG McSoulPatchy answered the door!  You were talking to him reporter... the CIA hat and Star on his hat was the giveaway and further proof he was the guy!!!

4.  Brig Generals dont live in apartments...

why wasnt he asked why he was wearing a star and CIA hat?  that would have been hillarious...

good job Phib!   Our Veterans and our folks in the Gardens of Stone are vindicated a little more...

I got that right awat also B.. I wonder what has happended to investigative reporting.. I hope the FBI saw the report and uses it as further evidence... at his trial.

Great to see such a positive follow-up on this story. Curious as to which senator he's obviously related to. Stealing medals wouldn't be an easy task for a pussified hipster. He'd need a helping hand.

MR T's Haircut said...

He was!  that was him.. and the news guys thought they couldnt locate him...

MR T's Haircut said...

I bet he wants to be the Daddy in the cell.....

Byron Audler said...

I noticed he got rid of the soulpatch, guess he thought that was going to save his miserable poser ass. Sucks to be you, meathead, I hope the cops told on the cons in the tank A) why you have an "=" over your door, and B) you were posing as a warrior, which you ain't. Last, but not least, I hope the whole time you're in the joint that one one lends you any vaseline.

Bet you're not smiling now.

John said...

Glad to see that he was arrested.  Either this guy is incredibly stupid or perhaps he's mentally ill.  Whichever he's about to get what he needs:  a cold cell or a padded room.

AW1 Tim said...

Heh....   If guys want to play dress-up, that's fine by me. Just do it like Michael Jackson did: made up decorations and uniforms from the costume company.

The ACLU is all over another case like this, claiming it's protected by the 1st Amendment. They are trying to get the "Stolen Valor" act over-turned as beeing too general. However, since it;s already illegal to pass yourself off as a cop, a doctor, an attorney, etc, I doubt they will have much luck with overturning the law as written.

There are a few lines that you should never cross. This is one of them. Thank you all who wrote, called, emailed, etc to get this guy picked up. :)

This guy, McSoulpatchy looks like a clown, or one of those aristocratic buffoons from the movies.  I'm pretty sure that was the look he was going for, and I didn't see the big deal about stolen valor, when done on such a comically large scale. Then I read this...

How about a search warrant "incident to arrest" to recover the falsely acquired decorations and his stash of other ill-gotten personal uniforms and awards???

Nice job, gang!

Let this be a lesson.

Great job, Sal!

That guy - what an utter d*****bag. Bad thing is he might have gotten away with it if he hadn't been stupid enough to overdo the decorations AND keep the facial hair that his boyfriends like so much. "Oh dear, I can't wear just a couple of these, I need more color! More fabulous, fabulous color! Bruce, does this uniform make my butt look big? It does? MARVELOUS!!"

Good job guys!  I don't mind seeing a vet wear the uniform correctly, but I damn sure don't cotton to seeing a civilian play dressup for whatever fucked up reason they've concocted to be the center of attention this week.

Here's hoping his prison Daddy makes him play dressup every day!

How old is this Jackass?

To wear a CIB (3rd award), he would have to have served in Korea sometime between 1950 to 1953. Then serve in Vietnam sometime between 1964 to 1973. Then for the 3rd award he'd have to pound sand in Desert Storm.  That right there, was a dead give away to me when first read the original article.  This rediculous Jackass looks like he's about early 30s.

Plus, that should be a white tie not a black one.  The medals and badges have already been covered by other posters here, so I won't go into it. Except he's a 2X army cross recipiant???

Yeah, this Jackass really over did it. I hope his arrainment and trial are televised. It would serve as a warning and a lesson for any other idiots out there wearing unauthorized decorations and such.

Just another Vet who's happy Justice has been served.

good show on part of all and nice to see FBI moving fast for once.  I shows that if the Media brings the light to the subject, there is action.
Now.. to tell the military expert that a Master parachutist qualification insignia with a combat jump star, is not a Basic parachutist badge.  :>)

Just watch this evenings broadcast, ABC13 reported he served in the Army in the mid 80's but never rose above a private.  He apparently worked for a city council member a few years ago.  She remembered thier first encounter, he was wearing the same uniform then. Sounds like it helped him a get a job.

Great job to all.  This shows the power of the internet and resolve of those who do right.

I hope he enjoys his weekend in jail and the rest of his legal problems.

That HELPED him get a job?  Doesn't anybody check resumes or use common sense?  WTF?

I served my time back in the mid '60s. I was not at all notable but I did what I was told and went where I was sent, complaining the whole time.  Except for those times during the southeast Asian War Games when total strangers were trying to kill me those were some pretty good years, though.

In retrospect I realise that while i wasn't anything special, still, once I stood with heroes. Flight Commander McSoulpatch cheapens those men's memories.

sid said...

Lt B, its a sobering take on how little exposure all branches of the military have in the 4th largest city in the  US...Especially among its "elites."

And if you want to savor the flavor of the Houston Democratic establishment...Enjoy

(not that the Delay Republicans were any more palatable)

Redeye80 said...

The council women in question is crawfishing big time.  In the report last night she stated on the phone, that McSoulpatch had a low level clerical job.  Of course, that make sense for a "retired general officer" to take what was essentially a entry level job.  Becuase of the job level, the reume was not checked.

Only in Houston!?

Saw where he was complaining the FBI had his handcuffs on too tight.

And his lawyer says he had no intentions of impersonating a military officer.

Noticed in the footage of his barely visible bruises, that he is sporting a military inspired tat on his left forearm...

A harbinger of the ugly crap that will bubble up post-DADT, when agenda driven gays will be right quick to whip out the drama card...
