Prowler "queers" really are the un-sung heros of OIF and OEF.  The lives that they quietly saved are huge.  I'm good friends with a Prowler EWO and I can tell you, they deploy A LOT.  One of the few breeds that earn their flight pay ;)

AOD: Amen, sir. When the Prowlers were first at "full strength," there were less squadrons than there were air wings, and the VAQ's were seeing four-month rotation cycles at home, and a very high divorce rate, needless to say, among other things.  Since 1990, things have continued, as they did both sea and shore deployments in support of virtually every NATO and US operation conceivable.  My hat is off to them.

As one of my DIVOs said once, "It is all cool with the air war till you get tagged in the Marshall Stack by an SA-10. That is why you need Prowlers and Growlers."

Too bad we can't use this on all our P-3's. C-130'ss as well. Be a nice look.

 And concur with all below.

Wonder how many MAFs they had to generate in NALCOMIS for this... Wouldn't want to be in THAT line shack. Shiny aircraft= more wash jobs. I miss the early 90s multi-gray TPS. Wash once a week at sea, need it or not.

If you squint your eyes just right you can see an SBD Dauntless returning from a visit to the IJN...

Be thankful that NAVAIR also has the wisdom to paint their CVN ISLANDS !  Sounds like a trivial comment, but notice that the Navy has always painted their aircraft carrier ISLANDS a nice shade of gray.   Also, all the LHA-1,2,3,4,5  as well as LHD-1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 all had their ISLANDS painted gray.

Even LHA-6, USS AMERICA already has her ISLAND painted gray and she won't even launch for another year !

yeppers, all those carriers listed above have always painted their Aluminum Islands with coats of gray PAINT.   And recall that DD-963 thru 992 also painted their Aluminum superstructures gray.   As did CG-47 thru CG-73,  and DDG-993, 994, 995, 996.  Even FFG-7 thru FFG-63 painted their aluminum superstructures with gray PAINT.

Since it's Thanksgiving, no mention will be made of the new (tranformational) ______ that have broken with the Naval tradition of painted their Aluminum superstructures.  Think of al the money and weight that NAVSEA saves by not painting the superstructures of the new ______ class of warships ??

Come on now, paint jobs on USN fighters are a long Naval tradition.   Paint can make our a/c and ships look better.  It may actually be too late to paint Larry Curley and Shemp class of warships which are quite permanaently colored a charcoal gray shade, without any paint at all.   Let's hope NAVAIR does not copy NAVSEA painting schemes.
