can this be sued as cruel and unusual pinishment? :P
The last one standing is the future OPNAV staff officer.
LOL - I'm fairly certain that's USS LASTSHIP's navigator.
Sorta reminds me of my 10th grade geometry teacher...scary ass Irish lady named Miller.
I bet it was a diversity brief.
Mission accomplished! That last Mid is simply a bitter clinger. ;) On my Schoolhouse tour, I made sure that my 1300 lectures had loud music, lots of visuals and I walked up and down the aisles between the desks. And that was to keep ME awake!
Cant be a Diversity Brief, there are only 6 White Guys and the other 4 of the of the 10 faces in this crowd are women and a black man. But I guess photo would still not be diverse enough...
That last Middie is already dead. What you are seeing is rigor mortis. I think my fave is the guy two seats over who has listed severely to port and is in danger of capsizing.
All very funny and underlies how rare a good powerpoint is. Like the one that changed a war... Cpt. Travis Patriquin's "How to Win in Anbar" powerpoint... The anniversary of his death is coming up next month. There was a man who knew the benefit of a well-thought-out PP. Everyone else needs to just break their computer keyboard.
Not to ruin the fun :) ... but this is actually from the mids waiting for Pres Bush to speak at the Academy back in fall '05... some companies arrived 4 or 5 hours prior to the President's arrival due to security restrictions. We did not even have a boring ppt to keep us entertained... so most people did what midshipmen do best... power nap.
I can't do it year-round, but I have found that some of the very best discussions and teaching moments come when I am walking with my daughter, or justy sitting outside. Something about the fresh air and energy helps the discussion.
I homeschool my youngest. I'll let her go to the High School next year to see how she likes it. However, she seems to enjoy the one-on-one learning, and we get to wander around in our syllabus to see how, for example, one thing might connect to another. How, for example, geometry was important to the Egyptians in order to build a pyramid, how to make the tools to build the pyramids, how to house and feed the workers, etc. Logistics and all that. But i digress.
It seems to me that the best teachers are those gifted with public speaking, improvisational skills, etc. The situation as seen in the poster is the direct result of a tool being used as a crutch. I see it all the time, and not just in education.
Power Point is like a play. You get good actors, good sets and a good cast, and it's a wonderful thing. You fail in any of those areas, and it's a huge waste of everyone's time.
Careful with the truth, it interrupts the degredation of USNA.
Guest - for goodness sake;
1. Get a sense of humor.
2. This is Sunday Funnies - not a documentary.
3. Degrade who? Listen to every episode of Midrats where we had everyone at USNA from MIND to Professors, up to the Supe on as a guest and ask who degrades what?
4. Please see a doctor about removing that small tree from your toockus.
Greetings:
In my day, the young woman who stayed awake would have been immediately inducted into the Sisters of Mercy and assigned to a grammar school in the Bronx.
Capsizing? As Congressman Hank Johnson (D-GA) has told us, the only thing in danger of capsizing is Guam.
The MSM seems to have missed that slight gaff. Americans in all 57 States wonder why.
Guest,
If anybody actually paid attention to the truth and took some action, it would stop the degradation at USNA. It would stop the lowering of standards for addmission and retention, it would stop the use of NAPS as a redshirt facility for athletes and return it to a place where deserving enlisted serving in the fleet get to get back in the academic groove to attend USNA because of their objectively measurable qualifications, it would return the Academy to its intended mission instead of being a social engineering diversity quest.
Nothing degrading about the funny - just a little humor; something we could all use a little more of.
WRONG!
Its 100% complete the last one simply sleeps with her eyes open.
Unfortunatly for the congressmen it hasn't escaped the noyice of nerds and geeks who have made damn sure to spread it far and wide.
I think it is time to Occupy Power Point. We demand, nee scream for better presentations and better presenters. It is time for dumb boring presentations to go to hell, it is time to presentation that lasts 8 hours to be drug out into the street to be drawn and quartered, it is time for any presenter that reads verbatim off his slide be graded as a 1.0 on Professional Knowlege, and that any presentation that attempts to use flashy buzz words or flashy graphics to hide that they have nothing useful to add to the brief/topic need to be immediately drug before the mast and issued NJP. It is totally time for reform of PPT!
Now this is a briefing:
General Welsh, USAFE CC, speaks to USAFA after lunch
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=hFBpxB5zgnY
There's another four-parter by him from when he was a BGEN and COmmandant of Cadets in 1999.
Pretty sure this is before President Bush's speech at USNA in 2005. The whole brigade had to be there 3 hours before he arrived so we all slept while waiting. 10th company plebes
So only nerds and geeks know that islands don't capsize? Perhaps the good Congressman was asleep in sixth grade when they talked about how an island is formed? How can you stand to listen to his grandstanding, pathetic attempt to demonstrate his stupendous knowledge by quoting physical dimensions of the island of Guam?
And if the Congressman didn't want this "spread far and wide," perhaps he shouldn't have broadcast it on C-Span. Television networks generally do a good job of such spreading.
Incidentally, although there is no "I" in team, there is an "e" in unfortunately. Also, "notice" is usually spelled with a "t" instead of a "y." When talking about only one Representative, the word is "Congressman" not "Congressmen." Additionally, "Congressman" is usually capitalized. While you're at it, you might consider inserting a comma after "Congressman." But at least you spelled "damn" correctly, so we know that you've had a fine education in cursing.
Just watching the trend data. BTW, you should see a therapist and get over your hatred of USNA.
Wow QSPN, go easy on James, he's a pretty good dude. Methinks he was in full agreement with us both.
It was...
Which one was you?
8-)
Guest,
In addition to being delusional - you have very poor commenting skills. I will assume you are directing your comments to me. If so, please follow the links below - and once your tail is firmly between your legs, please tell me where you find hatred.

I can do this all day if you need more.
Now that you head is low and your tail is between your legs .... care to provide evidence of "hatred."
Please, share them all.
Note to everyone. This really isn't about USNA ... or Bush. Just as long as everyone here is up to speed on this.
It is about have a bit of fun at the expense of ... ahem ... PPT.
Geezzzeee people.
You forgot to mention LCS or Air-Sea Battle.
Time well spent.
What "JFCOM" and "smoking joints" have in common? - besides name, they both numb the brain and make you want hug your brother (services)...
I love it ...reminds me of the BoreUSAll (Forrestal) lectures at USNA .... The Administration would bring in some heavy hitters (CNO, Frank Borrman (?) when he was CEO of Eastern Airlines, etc), pack us in the hot unventilated FieldHouse after dinner, and then expect us to stay at the edge of the seat with excitement. That's tough after a full day of running around as a Plebe. The esteemed Midshipman magazine -- THE LOG --- yes the home of Salty Sam, would judge the results as Win or Lose for the Speaker as well as quality of the head bobs. My recollection is that the only speaker to "win" was Ross Perot, who kept us on the edge of our seats describing his rescue of workers from Iran.
This was my CO and it was Bush's speech in '05. They wanted us there at 530 for security reasons. Up at 430 for muster and breakfast and went to Alumni...and waited 830...it was bad....my forehead is the one to the lower left of the zombie...
through all Forrestalls I have to say that was the greatest...Kissinger bored more people to death but I enjoyed it...from what I could understand.
