The Republicans decided on these leaders; they have been measured and found wanting. The Dems do offer something this election cycle: a chance to get rid of the Republican leadership. Sometimes, even the ones you love need a swift kick in the a55. The Republic will survive 24 months of Dem power in Congress.Well, here we are four years later. I was mostly right.
...
I know what I will get with the Democrats: high taxes, victim-mongering politics, gun grabs, goofy leftist ideas, PC nightmares, open borders, and huge pork laden spending.
So, let slip the Moonbats of Mayhem. I know what I will get with a Dem House and Senate. They will open hearings against everyone but the Bush Twins. The tax cuts that helped us recover from the 2000-2003 downturn will not be made permanent. New gun laws will be put forward (that GWB will veto). PC Diktat will be at the front. Immigration policy will be towards amnesty or nothing (GWB will not veto). Judges and other appointments will be blocked (unless one of them dies, has a stroke, or goes into a coma – no more SCUS judges will step down in the next two years – so don’t worry about that). Republicans will be humbled and shamed. The next two years will be full of divisive acrimony and the economy, already looking to cool a bit, will stagger through ’07 and mellow through ’08.So, there I was in '06 calling for a defeat for the Republicans ... and I am glad for it. Now it is time for a purging of the Democrats. Purge them hard - they had a chance to send the Republicans into the wilderness for decades and blew it. They were worse than even I thought, the power hungry twits.
A warning for the Republicans though - they still have too many of the people who were a problem four years ago in power. There must be a change in leadership at the top. If after these elections Republicans think it will be back to "DC normal" with them in the Majority - they are wrong.
If they are taking any type of advice from Trent Lott's lobbing firm or any of the old Republican establishment- then they will be destroyed in 2012 as the American public does not like Republicans - they are just hoping they will be better. If they follow through, then maybe they will be liked. The American public will need proof though; as does the Republican base. I am very suspicious that old DC will try to strangle anything new. We'll see. We'll see.
So, what are my predictions? Two weeks ago I was thinking 47 Republican gains in the House and 7 in the Senate as I didn't believe the hype. Today though? I just don't know. This is a very different election ... extremely different with a lot of jello moving on the plate.
If the wave is what people think, then tomorrow will be very interesting to say the least. If the hype is what it is, then we are looking at 64 in the House and 8 in the Senate. Yes, that is a move of only 1 in the Senate than my baseline - but when you consider the huge up-hill climb structurally the Republicans came into 2010 with in the Senate - an 8 seat gain is almost unreal. If my inner Eeyore is totally out of synch - then it could be north of that in the House. I'm using Patrick Ishmael's cheat sheet to track the wave's magnitude.
There we go - that is my swag. The Republicans are on probation - they need to put up or shut up. It will be good to see if they do, and I don't think the conventional wisdom that a Republican House and/or Senate will be good for Obama as he will have someone to blame and point fingers at .... I don't think that will wash. That is all he has done the last two years, people are tuning it out.
One last note of warning - if you think you will get a rest from politics now that the election is over, you are sadly wrong. No ... 2012 will start right away and it will be nasty as can be as can be, as all the Democrats will have is what they have been pulling for the last year - the race card on anyone that opposes President Obama. With Reid and Pelosi off the front burner (Buddah Willing) - there will be one Democrat to fuss at - Obama. As you know, all opposition to his policies at its core is racist ... so .... stand by.
Oh, enjoy voter fraud talk through Thanksgiving. Thank the Democrats for that....

If this goes well and we get meaningfull change (I wonder if I can't use that word properly anymore) we will need solid leadership and minimal bickering.
The American people, specifically the middle, will need to see professional, thoughful leaders develope and execute reasonable plans. If this becomes the right wing drama equivalent of the left wing drama (nightmare) of the past few years the door will swing back the other way pretty hard and pretty fast.
Not that we will ever see it but we REALLY need term limits passed this time around.
Skippy; focus, focus.
While we are on the topic - who has been involved in the major voter fraud problems since ... well the '60 election when Chicago became famous? Which party has been fighting the most simple first line of defense to prevent voter fraud - picture ID to vote? Who benefits most from voter fraud?
Oh, wait ... you didn't really address that issue in your comment, did you? A little too close to home, eh?
Skippy - I read your hyper links from the Atlantic and Wall Street Journal. The Atlantic's article is thin, and this is where this article completely loses me, the reason the Tea Party exists is because of $1.4 trillion in deficit spending EACH of the last two years. It exists because of a healthcare bill that isn't a health care bill, but designed to squeeze out private insurers.
I actually agree that the economy has grown. Do you know that FedEx can't put enough aircraft in Asia for all the goods that we are bringing in? At one point we were 200 positions behind, but have caught up as inventories have finally stabilized. This with the addition of 6 B-777 cargo aircraft since 1/1/10, in conjuction with MD-11, MD-10, and A300's in the Asia/Pacific market.
The bottom line for employers is that this is a jobless recovery versus the lies about Bush's economy of 2002-2004. Employers (companies - not government employers in case you were wondering) 8-) are sitting on massive amounts of revenue they could invest, but because of concern about Obama's penchant for regulation, insecurity about taxes, deficit spending that cannot ever be paid off, they will not invest. They are doing more with the same amount of people.
Skippy - (tounge in cheek), I kept my local ecomony going this year all by myself - the way it should be: Two kids in braces - meant vacations for Orthodonists: :) , finished my basement - now my contractors getting married: :) , (you should've seen how happy the 55-60 year old carpet guy was to get a job - warmed the heart), a big screen (for me) and laptop (for my wife) at the local Best Buy - they have record earnings :) , totaled a car in a flash flood on a freeway at midnight - had to replace a car, salesman was happy: :) , bought a 3rd (older) car because of 2 teenage drivers - another salesman was happy :) , bought fog machines & strobes to scare the little urchins last night - good for Target and Lowe's: :) . You're right Skippy - there's some consumin' going on here, the economy is humming. (please know - this isn't bragging, it was a mistake to do the basement and braces at the same time).
I'm actually with you Skippy - parts of the economy aren't hurting, parts of it is (housing, home improvement), but the simple fact is that you can't over spend by $1.4 trillion and expect people not to look at this and say it's sustainable.
and the systemic failure of democratic controlled districts to mail military ballots on time?
Voter fraud aftermaths always seem to innure to the Dem's favor because: 1- punishment for voter fraud does not fit the crime anywhere; 2- the crimes are quickly called isolated and inconsequential by self-serving election officials, and finally; Dems will drag out contested battles (e.g. Franken) until their liberal, lawyer-networked courts help them to prevail. Poor Al Gore nearly pulled it off with the Supreme Court even before Obama's recent appointments.
Even without fraud, ease of multiple voting is easier than most believe. http://tinyurl.com/2f7octc" REL="nofollow">here.
In Idaho, all it takes to vote is a property tax receipt. So if you have property in multiple counties, you can vote multiple times. When guy was caught and confessed, the DA let him off with "unintentional vote fraud".
Vote early, vote often! :)
If a military voter does not vote-a lot of that blame can be laid on him. There are several ways for a Soldier, Sailor, Airman, or Marine to vote absentee.
Those covered under military voting can have an absentee ballot mailed to them by the federal, state or local election authority or use a Federal Write-In Absence Ballot to cast their votes. The Federal Write-In Absence Ballot is available at all military bases and at U.S. embassies throughout the world. It can also be found online at the Federal Voting Assistance Program website.
Occam's Razor applies more than any conspiracy.
Off topic (sorry) - C-dore 14, you might find this interesting re ROTC:
http://www.securenation.org/re-legitimizing-rotc/
Ummm...NO.
Unlawful orders will not be followed...except by knaves.
Just vote.
Skippy,
Bull. When I was deployed I received my absentee ballot less than two weeks before it was due-and return mail was averaging 3-4 weeks. Many in my unit received their ballots after the election, 30% never received theirs at all. My state would not mail out ballots until 30 days prior to the election and required me to wait until 2 weeks prior for my requested absentee ballot to arrive; only then would they accept a Federal write in, and only for the federal races-no local elections. That doesn't work with mail taking 3 weeks each way.
I was at a major base in Iraq. What about the grunts out at the COPs who don't get mail as often?
That's the motto of the Cook County (Chicago IL) Democrats
Vote fraud is a Constitutional right for Dems. It's in one of those emanating penumbras.
Ya know, I really hope Obama keeps to the mantra of spending the next two years trying to gain an additional four years. The more he focuses on a losing battle, the less damage he can do to things that really matter.
Don't know about y'all, but I'm ready for the election to be OVER...Florida (JAX in particular) has been BRUTAL on the junk mail and cold-calling. I get no less than two or three cold-calls per hour and have for the last 10 days or so. My phone goes straight to my FAX, thankyouverymuch. Gonna be interesting to see how Charlie Crist, our Republican Governor, will fare as an INDEPENDENT candidate for Senate. Will be a flip of a coin between him and Marco Rubio. Meek (Dem.) ain't got a prayer, IMO.
Y'all be sure to VOTE!
JAV, Things sure must have gone to hell since I retired. I voted absentee (from the "Peoples' Republic of California" no less) without problem for over 28 years. Somehow they always managed to get my ballot to me whether I was at home, deployed (even during my Vietnam deployment), or stationed in Europe.
In fact, the only time I remember there not being a big "get out the military vote" campaign was during the Carter Administration.
It's also the motto of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations.
Maybe not voter fraud but I'll wager that there'll be more than one recount in a major race going on by the end of the week.

Lighten up Frances
I meant, We get what we pay for, I mean vote for.
Voter fraud should be a capital offense. Extra-judicial if necessary!
I am not voting for Republicans, and against Democrats, I am voting FOR CONSERVATIVES! Conservative Republicans who stray into the "big-government, go along to get along" mentality will not be re-elected.
We must reclaim our country and its traditional values and limitations upon government, and abolish the welfare plantation and involuntary servitude of the working class.
You mean like the Rossi/Murray race or the I-1098 race. I just got my ballot today at my command! It was only mailed out on 01OCT10 and I am registered in Island County. I would hate to see if I changed my country registration to where my wife lives in King County. The same county that did the "Ooops look at this four years later, we found some unopened overseas ballots from the 04 election.", where some people are registered addresses are county parks/7-11's/mini-storage facilities, where even the County elections commissionior was found to be running for office only barely making the residancy reguirements by about twelve hours.
I'm unleashing my inner raving optimist and predicting 78 in the House and 11 in the Senate. Might as well aim high, no? :)
I think that when the dust settles, the numbers are going to be pretty stunning. Obama/Pelosi/Reid might just pull the whole Democrat party right down into the ground.
Guest is me. The resident raving optimist.
SAP, this makes my head explode with rage. Nine years into this war with constant deployments, and the individual states still can't figure out how to get ballots out to deployed personnel on a timely basis? It begins to look deliberate after all this time.
Kirsten,
I can count the on one finger the number of times I have been successful in getting my "official" ballot in my 12 yrs in the Navy. I have used the FVAP write-in ballot more often or not, but due to issues with trying to access the voter records, I don't know if my county auditor at a few other locations in WA have accepted the FVAP write-in ballot. Which if they didn't is considered a violation of federal law, but WA just like IL and a few others (MD to name one as well) are in violation of the MOVE ACT as well. But the DOJ's "Its voter intimidation only if it is white folks with weapons/sheets are outside of polling places" isn't investigating nor bringing charges.
More the a few times the reasons that I haven't received my ballot on time has been due to me moving right before the primary election process and the resulting changes to the auditors voter database has had them revert to my home of residency (my parents house). So the actual election ballot has gotten sent to my folks house, if it has been mailed to me at my most current duty station. The issue becomes the fact that neither the US Military Mail nor the USPS mail system can (and won't) guarantee delivery prior to the election. Nor can some US Military mail system guarantee proper post-marking IAW most state laws. I know that most of the carriers that I have been deployed on, use hand stampers. So instead they will dump all out going mail in the bags and let a shore station like Bahrain, Naples, Yokouska; use their automated system to postmark the outgoing mail.
Oh and to really scare you. I received an official post marked ballot on the 29th of December and it was mailed out from the Seattle USPS mail processing center on the 5th of October one year.
Just got done throwing out all - yep all - the last minute, high buck direct mail that invaded my mail box and front porch from both parties. Personally, hope the avalanche of new real conservatives is overwhelming tomorrow. Just because. RINO's can go too, or we'll get 'em next time. Not that it will change his tune, but the no longer-esteemed, poll sliding, prevaricating pres needs to get the message along with his moonbat cronies. Personally, I'd just like my change $ back.
King County operates a lot like Cook County and LBJ's old stomping grounds. A recount in Washington is not a recount unless you add more ballots to the (D) side from King County.
Here in the south we like to shout "voter fraud" 'cause it makes people afraid to vote.
I ain't no fan of many of those "founding fathers," too many drunks and reprobates. One I'm partial to; said political parties would destroy our nation.
"The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders and miseries, which result, gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of Public Liberty.
So Bubba, them "founding fathers" not to your liking? Rather have Hillary Clinton than John Adams? Eric Holder than James Madison? Harry Reid than John Jay? Al Franken instead of Thomas Jefferson?
You're right. We should have found a way to compromise our freedom with the British. That whole Declaration of Independence thing, the Constitution, government of the people, by the people, and for the people? Can't hold a candle to Obammunism.
Voter intimidation... huh.
He's just having a little fun.
We don't cheat, and they can't cheat if it ain't close. Too bad that's the only way to keep them from cheating.
We got Al Franken - and its terrible I have to write that.
but I like your name - Bubba Bob.
I see a little bit bigger gut, maybe an adult beverage in hand as you wrote this, and you own a ........chevy p/up, maybe Ford, not dodge, definitly not Jap. p/up. And.......you have beer t-shirts, and like them!
Kristen:

Again, what structural changes? Your words not mine. Anytime I see changes as mentioned from the current administration, I see regulation, I see government intervention. Whcih really means we are screwed.
Likewise, I'd like to see Dems explain cutting the big 4 as you say. Oh, what a minute, I think they are the ones who caused those problems. Just saying.
Here in the south we like to shout "voter fraud" 'cause it makes people afraid to vote.

Still not liking that voters rights thing? Say are your sheets still drying in the wind?
I would recommend a whole bunch of books that feature most of the founding father's ideas, theories, and words; but knowing you for what you are Bub. This is the only book you are probably going to need.
Thanks for your insightful comment, Bubba Bob.
The view from the top of society to the bottom of society. A view of the run up to and total revoultionary war.
John Adams. The bio by David McCoullough on the one man who offset his radicalist cousin, who defended the undefendable (sort of like some of the lawyers at Gitmo), and pushed for a rule of law in the nation
1776. A view of the first full year at war. All of the lows and a few of the highs. Think about this some of the senior officers in the Contentital Army have only done some militia time or studied books. No actual combat time, yet they pulled off some seriously impressive operations.

Most of these books are from the Library of America imprint, but these are good books and the best way to get the most information about the nation's major politicians/leaders who established the how it this nation should work. Also the more you dig into this nation's history the more you realized that the things change the more they stay the same. Exchange Federalists vs Demo-Republican party with Dems vs Republicans. The hate and dischord has been the same all the way around, same issues, same fights.
Thomas Jefferson said John Adams was a “hideous, hermaphroditical character with neither the force and firmness of a man nor the gentleness or sensibility of a woman.” Replying in kind, Adams said Jefferson was the “son of a Half-breed Indian squaw raised on hoe-cakes.”
The whole Franken thing makes me embarrassed that I have relatives that are Gophers. Of course, Wisconsin Customs is now on alert at the WI-MN Border Checkpoints. Hopefully, today we will replace the weasel in the Governor's Mansion with a Badger, who will stop the Madison-Milwaukee high speed train foolishness.
The resident raving optimist.
Especially true, considering your location deep inside the enemy territory of the People's Democratic Republic of Kal-ee-forn-ee-yaahhh.... ;)
You guys say "drunks and reprobates" like its a bad thing. :-D
What's wrong with hi speed rail? There are a lot of places in the country where it would be a benefit? Here in Alabama, a highspeed line running from Huntsville to Birmingham, Montgomery, to Mobile would be a blessing. And not so hard to build.
Same is true with many of the places in the NE and SE. The lack of decent train service, decent public transportation, and having to drive every where is what sucks about living in America today. If Asia and Europe can do it-we should be able to.
Of course if some have their way the name will be changed to just State of Rhode Island... Yes, that is ballot question one.
That's been the theme of the editorialists at the Chicago Tribune, reminding us that we get the government we vote for...
But you know that the next one (2012) starts tomorrow. Luckily, we have the Chicago mayoral (featuring Rahm-bo, darling of the DC media who are quite conviced Chicagoans want him in charge) that runs through early April, before the 2012 madness starts...
So the DNC just dumped huge amounts of cash (~$1M) into the campaign of Obama pal/senate hopeful Alexi Gianoulias on Sat. here in IL. Expect vote fraud, long recounts and other typical Chicago politics....Mark Kirk is ok, more moderate than conservative, but does Naval Intelligence in the reserves. Oh, and he nominated my mid. ;) (can't take the Chicago out me completely....)
Yep. The same model used in Miami-Dade County FL in 2000.
Dat gest be me.
SAP, Fascinating since that was not my experience. Never had a problem voting absentee during my service. Of course I was registered in San Diego County not in Washington State.
Agree that the Rossi/Murray race will be one of the nail-biters. Probably won't be settled until King County gets their ballot count "right" ;)
andrew, Thanks. I did find it interesting, especially since I missed the original NYT op-ed. Think that the securenation post is on the mark about what really happened when the ROTC programs were closed at a number of schools. Questioning the qualifications of ROTC faculty and the academic rigor of the courses as justification to downgrade the programs to extra-curricular activity status was pretty much standard procedure back then. Denial of academic credit for ROTC classes and status as a full professor for the CO were standard procedure in hopes that enrollment would decrease or the services would withdraw their units. Several schools (e.g. UW, UCLA and, interestingly enough, Cal) fought back and kept their programs intact.
There were changes, however, although not all of them were bad. I was required to have a Masters Degree and went through an approval process similar to any faculty member before I could take command (it was pretty much pro-forma 'though). My officers were also required to either have a masters degree or be eligible for graduate work at the school. Nobody outside of the Navy had anything to do with my course structure and all work received academic credit.
Who said I hate the two party system? Projecting a bit there R80?
And yet Jefferson and Adams, after a falling out, were friends. Maybe there's something to be learned here.
"Thomas Jefferson survives".
Did they recognize a masters from the War College-type DoD schools?
andrew, My university accepted my relief's Masters from NDU as they did mine from the PG School. Most of the other NROTC COs got their degrees from a service school of some type. The Ivy League School might try to split hairs over the "quality" of someone's academic work although, if the services were serious about reopening the units there, there are enough folks with degrees from places like Tufts, Harvard, Stanford, etc. to fill the need.
That is good to hear they didn't try to play those type of games. What part of the country was your ROTC unit in?
The Pacific Northwest. It (along with Harvard and Yale) was one of the original 6 NROTC Units.
Would it really be so? I understand one of the major problems is obtaining new right of ways owing to the very strict tolerances HSR demands.
W/r,
SJS
Hey Skippy, How'd THIS happen?
"In the last three years, dozens of ACORN workers were accused of, and numerous pleaded guilty to, voter fraud related charges. The investigations began in 2007, when King County prosecutors charged 7 ACORN workers with felony counts for allegedly submitting 1,800 phony voter registration forms. One ACORN worker admitted to prosecutors that it was "hard work making up all those cards," and another would sit at home filling out the bogus forms, while smoking marijuana.
The most recent case came on October 15th, when a former ACORN worker in Milwaukee pleaded guilty to voter fraud related charges of submitting multiple voter registration applications. The felony charges could bring up to 3 and ½ years in prison when the defendant, 27 year old Kevin Clancy, is sentenced the week after next."

That would not be the same King County where New York, district attorney Joe Hynes likewise clearedACORN of wrongdoing stemming from claims instigated by O'Keefe and Giles' taping at ACORN's Brooklyn office, stating: "That investigation is now concluded and no criminality has been found." would it?
