See, I am normal

Ahem - Kristen, be careful with the hyperlinks! This is scientific and all - but you know some people.....
Watching a curvaceous woman can feel like a reward in the brain of men, much as drinking alcohol or taking drugs might, research now reveals.

...researchers had 14 men, average age 25, rate how attractive they
found pictures of the naked derrieres of seven women before and after cosmetic surgery that gave them more shapely hips. These operations did not reduce weight but just redistributed it, by implanting fat harvested from the waists into the buttocks.

Brain scans of the men revealed that seeing post-surgery women activated parts of the brain linked with rewards, including regions associated with responses to drugs and alcohol.
...
Shapely hips in women are linked with fertility and overall health. As such, it makes sense evolutionarily speaking that studies across cultures have shown men typically find hourglass figures sexy.

Skippy - you may want to investigate here.

Hat tip Mrs. Salamander.

Sal,

What a great idea for an episode of MIDRATS.  Though I will admit it would lose something as an internet radio webcast.  Maybe a special video webcast for this one?  I trust your judgment, pick your guests accordingly....

But you should warn people of the dangers!!!!!

Whoa!!!  A SCIENCE PROJECT!!!
Way cool, as I can "pass" for an Academic 8-)

And even though I'm decidedly not normal, the cues seem to work for me as well.

Maybe I can get some funding out the Stimulus Package to studdy this closer!

(sid dons a pith helemt and turns up the National Geographic theme full blast on the ipod...)

Some of those ladies should have sued their plastic surgeons for the horrendous boobie jobs too!

How about:  American women's standards of beauty being forcibly changed by a homosexual designing culture that abhors or is at least mildly repulsed by real women's figures.

Stop trying to make us all shaped like teenage boys to fit in your clothes you design!

Phib, you had to know that this was going to turn out badly. All of these over-aged juvenilles with raging hormones and that top five all time...uh...well....you know....

I'm gonna go be alone for a bit.... ;)

Gives a whole new meaning to "stimulus" and "package," eh Sid?

DB,

IMHO, you have hit on the #1 source of exploitation of women.  Madison Avenue's assertion that all girls and women should look like 12-year old boys or half-starved heroin addicts.  Hubba hubba.

Old NFO said...

Agreed DB, now if we can just get the "health professionals" to quit putting out height/weight charts that often do the same thing.  Marilyn Monroe, Bridget Bardot or Raquel Welch would have trouble meeting those standards.

You gentlemen are quite correct.  I am tired of nieces that are obsessed with looking like skinny 14 year old boys. I wish there was some way to get them to understand that women like the one on the photo ARE the normal ones. God designed women to have curves!

UltimaRatioRegis said...

Not only did He design them that way, but men who are interested in being MEN love them that way!

Kristen said...

Good grief.  Where do I sign up to conduct a study in which I get money for coming to the conclusion that men's brains respond to curvy women?

'Preciate the warning and I stayed away from most of the links but I did follow the very first one.  I was struck by the comment on attractive figures and the female brain.  Can't speak for all female brains, but I definitely check out other women and compare myself to them.  And the part about mate guarding made me laugh.  Well, yeah.  No one else is getting mine!

Talk to Rahm Emmanuel.  I am sure there is $80 billion or so put aside for some kind of research.  Tell them that you have a theory that cleavage contributes to global warming.  That we should mandate that women should be flat-chested girl-boys in order to save the environment.  Sounds like a shovel-ready project to me.

the curve of a woman.. simply awesome... DADT?  really?

Kristen said...

Perfect.  I'll get his pal Rep. Massa to bring up the request.  He seems to have a way with Rahm.

Beg pardon?

I had the volume turned up...

All entendres are purely coincidental as I am focused soley on scientifically verfiable facts...

Early hypothesis:

Its not a weight driven thing...Its all about proportional dimensions

(the women in the office are looking at me funny...)

I admit I am not the world's leading expert on the subject, but even I fail to understand why "attractive women" today seem so similar to "recent death camp survivors."

CDR, this post will certainly confuse the Google(TM) adservers!

The Yokohama Tire company makes inflateable rubber fenders for tanker hadling tugs, as tugs are becoming very powerful, and there is a huge area for pushing on your modern tanker.  Yokohama fenders, when inflated, are two large balls, one on either side of the bow.  With the current popularity of breast implants, I see women who look like they are gonna move that tanker, if it's the last thing they do. Sometimes, when I see a woman with obvious ones, I almost feel like I should get on Channel 16, and tell her I want the tanker over at unloading pier 6, facing out.

You should probably put a NSFW warning on your link. However FWIW-I found that site a long time ago. :)

I thought the Kristin warning was obvious .....

Now, here is information I can use. No more hey babe. From here on out my Friday happy hour bar line will be, ",,,,,,.salutations optimally designed female." BTW i'd like to see updated pix to see how 30 + years have affected structural change and view the efffects of  deferred maintenance on the subjects. Nah, no I don't.

DeltaBravo said...

Yeah, some of the women in the photos made me wince.  Obvious they are in sore need of a sandwich.  What's sad is the young ladies I know who try so hard to measure up to this unrealistic standard of "beauty" because they think that's what guys want.

Casey Tompkins said...

That's ok, DB, us grown-up men enjoy grown-up women, as opposed to adolescent girls.

I don't know Kristen... second the NSFW warning.

SCOTTtheBADGER said...

A lot of them seemed to look unhappy, too.

DeltaBravo said...

I'm wondering if they knew when the photos were taken that they'd be on the internet in all their glory for the world to look at for all time to come.....

What kind of release do you have to sign for THAT?

How many $$ was leeched off the university funds to prove something quite obvious?
Men like to watch well built women. Discovery of the century!

Listening to Hannity yesterday, eh?

“I’m sitting there showering, naked as a jaybird and here comes Rahm Emanuel not even with a towel wrapped around his tush, poking his finger in my chest, yelling at me because I wasn’t going to vote for the president’s budget. Do you know how awkward it is to have a political argument with a naked man?”

'Tis a bit of a shame he is leaving.  Anyone who can call Rahm-bo "Son of the devil's spawn" deserves some accolades.

oops, this is veering into the wrong comment thread...sorry, boss.

Roam around Arlington, VA- most of 'em look unhappy anyway. I think the princess thing didn't work out the way they planned, and they're mad. Thank God for Aussie women!

I'm the site canary in the coalmine for R-rated stuff.  When the CDR links to naughty sites I keel over, so he posts a warning for me.  Most of the regulars know that means NSFW.

"Optimally-designed female" made me laugh too.

GOH - I've read (somewhere, can't find the link now) that the anorexia rates among women in American Samoa(!) began to climb 18 months after Baywatch began showing on TV there.

Casey, you (and others here) might find the following (NSFW, for some value of NSFW) link of interest:

Beyond the photos, thre is a reasonably cogent discussion of the body-image issue.
