Wolfowitz's farewell

Catching up on some old message traffic and I ran across this rather unusual message. Before he headed off to The World Bank, Paul Wolfowitz sent out a solid message to the folks in uniform. I would like to beat the crap out of his military aide and his admin staff; terrible formatting and message structure. That being said, IMAO he is a class act. Though you would find it of interest.

SUBJ: THE DEPUTY SECRETARY OF DEFENSE FAREWELL ADDRESS TO THE MEMBERS
OF THE ARMED SERVICES
ALDODACT 08/05
ADDRESSEES PASS TO ALL SUBORDINATE COMMANDS
(PARA) IT HAS BEEN A PRIVILEGE AND AN HONOR TO SERVE AS YOUR DEPUTY SECRETARY OF DEFENSE FOR THE PAST FOUR YEARS. I WILL NEVER FORGET THE COURAGE AND DEDICATION WITH WHICH THE SOLDIERS, SAILORS, AIRMEN, MARINES, AND COAST GUARD RESPONDED AFTER THE TERRIBLE ATTACKS ON AMERICAN SOIL ON SEPTEMBER 11TH, 2001. YOUR SELFLESS ACTIONS IN PURSUING OUR ENEMIES HAVE HELPED TO PROTECT OUR COUNTRY AND YOUR VALOR HAS LIBERATED THE PEOPLE OF IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN, LIGHTING THE FLAME OF LIBERTY FOR 50 MILLION PEOPLE WHO HAD LIVED UNDER TWO OF THE WORLDS MOST BRUTAL TERRORIST TYRANNIES. TODAY YOU CONTINUE TO WAGE WAR AGAINST THE ENEMIES OF FREEDOM AND JUSTICE, FIGHTING TO PRESERVE EVERYTHING THAT AMERICANS HOLD MOST DEAR.
(PARA) NOW, THE PRESIDENT HAS ASKED ME TO TAKE ON A NEW MISSION THAT OF FIGHTING ON BEHALF OF THE WORLD*S POOR. ALTHOUGH I LEAVE THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE, I BELIEVE BOTH OUR MISSIONS SERVE THE GOAL OF MAKING THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE. IF THE GLOBAL COMMUNITY CAN REDUCE POVERTY AND DESPERATION, I BELIEVE WE MAY LESSEN YOUR BURDEN AND, LIKE YOU, HELP MAKE A WORLD FOR OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN THAT
IS SAFER AND MORE SECURE.
(PARA) I APPRECIATE YOUR DEDICATION TO THIS GREAT COUNTRY OF OURS MORE THAN WORDS CAN ADEQUATELY EXPRESS, AND I WILL ALWAYS BE EXTRAORDINARILY PROUD AND DEEPLY GRATEFUL TO HAVE SERVED WITH YOU.
(PARA) MAY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS ALL OF YOU WHO SERVE US SO NOBLY AND SO WELL.
SINCERELY,
//PAUL WOLFOWITZ//
