Well the upUS Navy stopped using Lead Base Oaint in 1996, which would have made Cdr. Michael William Brannon, USN the first of the post 1996 Rust Navy Commanding Officers or Cdr. Charles Ferguson...

How about for the period actually under discussion in the article? When that picture was taken. I'm guessing the ship didn't look like that when it came out of the builder's yard, so maybe that guy...

Excellent. I glad the Army was able to bring his team and the parents of the soldiers killed in action to the ceremony. Very heartwarming.
SSGT Giunta is like every MOH recipient I have every met, they are all humble in the actions they took.
Several years ago, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Reserve Affairs, Col. Harvey Barnum, Ret. gave a talk to a Commander's Conference for 4th MAW. He passed around his medal for everyone to see. Everyone treated that medal with reverence. It was privilege to touch the medal.
To SSGT Giunta well done!
Great 60 minutes segment on this past Sunday re: SSGT Giunta. Well deserved!
What the lady said.
It is...funny story about that. A female Army Officer I know, class act all the way, was working for an airborne unit. She had that underneath her signature block. No issues with it at all until another senior female officer pulled her aside and chastized her for her professionalism and asked her what kind of message she thought she was sending.
/facepalm
AR, Curious about which Branch the senior officer served in.
I will say this: I thought this ceremony was well done, and even if the President had note cards (or mini-teleprompter in the podium surface), he presented it well, and I felt his "off the script" comment was excellent and heartfelt.
A fine day indeed, and as it is my manner to point at one special day in Military history...SSGT Giunta did what any of his buddies would do on that same day: Oct 25th. A note to add to the blog come that time 11 months from now.
