OK everyone .... when was the last time you heard, "We can't do that - we are out of funding."
We've talked about it once - we've talked about it a hundred times; your helpful friends from NAVSEA; are there enough of them to do their jobs? Do they have all the training they need?
A little broader - is this a Navy at war? Are we in a time of budget shortfalls?
Hmmm ..... there is only one thing to do .... ROADTRIP!
-----Original Message-----Personally - I think if you are in DC and pay federal taxes, show up. Get on the bus and go. You paid for it sucker ... errr ... taxpayer.

Waste, Fraud and Abuse. Remember the CNO's discussion on warfighting first? What the living f*ck does this have to do w/ putting steel on target? Will this field trip made dead tangos? Hell, if they were giong to go anywhere, why not go to a museum or factory and justapose shipbuilding methods, capabilities and product quality from 40 yrs ago to now? And as for this coming from the EEO office, will there be museum runs to celebrate the accomplishments of the Scotch/Irish bubbas that have worked in the Navy? If not, how is it equality to only do it for Indians (feathers not dots)? And if so, I still have to wonder how it will improve our ability to put steel on target.
Progressivies, "equal", you keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means.
We are not a Navy at war. Too much leftists, pansy-a$$ doctrine being shoved down our throat down from the intestine above. Build ships and planes, train us to use our instruments of SLOC control and destruction, give us a mission in which to have pride, and help us keep our instruments of death up and running. Then get the eff out of the way. I don't think the sailors require the rest of the brainwashing. Do you?
To be fair, this is a trip from the Navy Yard (8th and M St SE) to the museum on 4th street. It is really walking distance. The museum is free. So, in an organization that rounds off to the nearest thousand dollars, this is tiny.
I don't disagree with your most of your DT rants, but this is small potatoes. How about a rant on MGEN Fuller's honest views on Afghani military prospects. That's big potatoes.
Recommended roadtrip sing-along...
Every day I get in the queue (Too much, Team Short Bus)
To get on the bus that takes me to you (Team Short Bus)
I'm so nervous, I just sit and smile (Team Short Bus)
The National Museum of the American Indian is only another mile (Team Short Bus)
Thank you, driver, for getting me here (Team Short Bus)
This is way better than doing something for the fleet (Team Short Bus)
I don't want to cause no fuss (Team Short Bus)
But can I buy your Magic Bus? (Team Short Bus)
Diversity = death of nations.
Diversity forces the wasting of treasure on resources on a failed enterprise. Treasure that cannot be devoted to the common welfare.
Diversity leads to the ruination of nations.. Diversity is Socialism plain and simple.
It is leading to our death as a service and a nation.
Nice, a tour of a museum by non-essential personnel during working hours.
Good basis for developing a position reduction list.
'Cause you know all the really important worker bees will be manning their desks instead of riding the bus . . .
Diversity - see the former Yugoslavia.
We quible over the stupid while we waste resources not important to the defense of our nation. Diversity forces a change of perceived inequality. It ruins all that is good in a meritocracy. THe barn is on fire and we are looking for a blue bucket instead of a red one...
NAVSEA once again striking out. Add this to the list of banquets and awards dinners that they host for "[insert race, gender, religion, sexual orientation here] of the Year Awards." Nevermind that we can't afford to do $hit, they still have their new computers, blackberry's, chairs, and MWR events.
MWR......for NAVSEA?!?!?!?!
WHAT THE $%$# IS WRONG WITH MY NAVY THAT WE ALLOW THEM TO HAVE AN MWR?!?!?! WHY IN THE BLUE HELL ARE THEY SUFFERING MORALE PROBLEMS? WEEKENDS OFF? CHECK! HOLIDAYS OFF? CHECK! SNOW DAYS OUT THE ASS? CHECK! FREE EDUCATION? CHECK! ALMOST ZERO THREAT OF BEING LAID OFF WHEN EVERYONE ELSE IS LOSING THEIR JOBS? CHECK!
Time to bilge......
No, it's a worthwhile trip. The take away lesson ought to be: without superior weaponry, resoures, and co ordination of forces your way of life and culture will be best remembered in a museum of those who prevailed over you.
But as I mention when someone points this out....if we cannot agree that this is wasteful and end this "small potatoes" ....then how are we going to have the fiscal discipline to tackle the real wasteful spending??
It is analagous to the broken window of policing....leave the broken window and you encourage more of the same. Fix/prevent the broken window and you encourage better behaviour.
Sure this is small potatoes in the grand scheme of things but can we at least start here?
Heck, get rid of all benefits for employees. Why not cut Tricare Prime for retirees. That's how you get a worldclass workforce.
"The more things 'change,' the more they stay the same." (or something similar)
I'd like to add an anecdote....
The new CNO started a blog. (more likely a few of his staff did) I think it was post #3, he (or they) commented on the importance of being frugal with allocated $$$$. I remembered your post about the new art hung in the Puzzle Palace halls, so I commented that I hoped the lady ADM got his message and provided a link to your post.
Did I expect a reply? Only slightly. Good thing I didn't get my hopes up. The only comments I've seen published to any of his/their posts have been, for the most part, the usual, expected suck-ups.
Hell, what do I know! My guys are dumping gazillions into crappola faster than Bernanke can print it.
Speaking of a waste of taxpayer dollars...the infection continues to spread...
By soft-pedaling patriotism, the newly-formed US national tourism board tasked with getting more tourists -- and their money -- onto US soil is reinventing the nation as a hip new land of diversity and possibilities.

but there is also the time associated with the employees that are taking the hours off - not so small potato's
