NEX Fail
OK, I can accept this kind of stuff from the media and general merchandisers. I'm not a zealot; I think.
However - at the Navy Exchange? Yep - that is where one of my spies, well, spied it.
Just prior to the Miramar airshow this year, the San Diego Union Trib had an announcemnet of the Blue Angels airshow coming up. What did they use as a graphic? You guessed it...the Thunderbirds.
Well, yeah, they also shot a captured V-2 off the back of a CV in 1946, but it doesn't mean we need Werner von Braun on a commemorative T-Shirt for the Centennial of Naval Aviation!
The dishonor rendered to our hallowed air dale warriors by the Diversity Industry is reprehensible. Additionally, they act as thieves in the night to female aviators everywhere, insinuating that they have no claim to the heritage of aviators that came before them just because of their gender is disgusting. It is something that the Diversity Clowns are constantly preaching.
from a "shall remain nameless female aviator" whom I sent URR's article to: " <p><span>Adding women to the force was great but not nearly as earth-shattering as technological advancements/upgrades and various battles/wars that shaped the way I, LT "Anonymous", fights a jet today.<span> </span>If they didn't come before, I couldn't be here now.<span> </span>Yah, it's great they let me in but the real history is what's important and it's what I care about.<span> </span>I'm in the Navy, I know this...I don't need to be reminded...but I DO want to hear about the heroes."</span></p>
Speaking of NEX fail, I've been out of the Navy for a few years now and have changed addresses; however, the NEX Christmas circular SOMEHOW found my mailbox this November.
The NEX carried a singing card for several years (it played "Anchors Aweigh") that read "Greetings from the United States Navy" over a picture of the TS Royalist, a British Marine Society and Sea Cadets sail training ship, with the Blue Ensign plainly visible.
The George, though a IJN plane like the Shinden and Kikka, like them was never a carrier plane and most likely could not have been modified into one without severe penalties.
Its pre-incarnation, the Rex, was a float-fighter though and probably could have been operated from a seaplane carrier.
<span>Seems like every time we move, the people who want money from us always seem to find us without a change of address notice.</span>
If we'd put the same people who track down alumni for the average college alumni association on the hunt for Bin Laden, he'd have been toast in Dec 2001...
My alumni association had only lost a handful of graduates by the time of my 5th year reunion....and they wanted the rest of us to turn in the miscreants if we knew where they were hiding!
Yeah, if he's had a subscription to TV Guide we could have nailed him. Or had just once talked to someone from the membership committee of a Chamber of Commerce.
I just wish I could travel from dallas to the NEX and pick one up. Seriously...two birds with one stone. We cover the costs of the f-up, and we show our support for da Navy no matter what.
Squids Lead The Way (with apologies to my Ranger pals). </bows>
What? That's why they're called Flat-tops. No JUGS.
ReplyDeleteWas at the North Island NEX 3 times over the past wek and never saw this on sale. Where was this?
ReplyDeleteToo funny. Was it Saipan where some Army P-47s did a one way launch off of a carrier?
ReplyDeleteLOL. Other than that, what a terrible mistake.
an early example of jointness :P and back then it was really good
ReplyDeleteA jug? That's just wrong.
ReplyDeleteI guess we could add B-25s, too, for the Doolittle raid.
ReplyDeleteGood Lordy.
ReplyDeleteThere's that Navy grasp of their history, again, with the proper emphasis on the important things.
More sad than anything. Nobody, but NOBODY in the entire process of producing a product for sale in a Navy Exchange knew what they were looking at?
Ah geez...wait for it...
ReplyDelete(Yet another) epic facepalm for the centennial observation...
Good Bloody Grief.
ReplyDeleteJust getting a headstart on Diversity History.. Ala Tuskagee Airmen.. they flew these..
ReplyDeleteI saw this at the NEX North Island. Made me laugh and cry all at the same time

ReplyDelete.... and there's our next DivThu!
ReplyDeleteHas CHINFO set up a Facebook page for this yet?

ReplyDeleteAt least the USAF makes stupid mistakes too.
The question of the day..... :-P
ReplyDeleteI do know they flew P-40s off escort carriers into North Africa after the '42 invasion...

ReplyDeleteSnowman wins!
ReplyDeleteDUDE!

ReplyDeleteMaybe that's NEX win?
Yeah, if you want a Navy Aviation skivvie shirt with an Army airplane on it.
ReplyDeleteThe NEX carried a singing card for several years (it played "Anchors Aweigh") that read "Greetings from the United States Navy" over a picture of the TS Royalist, a British Marine Society and Sea Cadets sail training ship, with the Blue Ensign plainly visible.
ReplyDeleteOr if you want to spend $8 to $10 more for a DVD than you would at Amazon.
ReplyDeleteThey've probably been preoccupied trying to clear the "Global Force For Good" sweatshirts off the shelves.
ReplyDeleteBig Clearance Sale!
ReplyDeleteMaybe they can create some that tout the "Hundred Ship Navy!"
hilarious!!
ReplyDeleteSeems like every time we move, the people who want money from us always seem to find us without a change of address notice.
ReplyDeleteStand by for a NAVADMIN requiring the purchase of these shirts, with "intrusive leadership" mandated to ensure compliance.
ReplyDeleteWorked the last time they had crappy clothes they had to move...
Thunderbolts and Georges really do look alike, don't they?
ReplyDeleteThe George, though a IJN plane like the Shinden and Kikka, like them was never a carrier plane and most likely could not have been modified into one without severe penalties.

Comment of the week material, right there...

Of course the real question is...what country was the t-shirt made in?
ReplyDeletea little bird tells me nex hq caught the error back in february and the p-47 shirts were recalled. nasni nex somehow missed the memo.

ReplyDelete<bows> Thanks all.
