Diversity Thursday

Time to put your manhour cost analysis hats on folks.

There are two ways to look at this:
1. The CNO wants some data to help use up some white space on his end-of-tour award.
2. At last, someone is starting to ask hard questions about what the CNO's cultural-Marxism fetish is costing a Navy at war.

Either way - bask in the insanity and cost of institutional discrimination writ large.

I'm in a good mood - last names redacted to protect the guilty - but the numbers kept in so you get a feel for it. My spies tell me that all operations stopped at their UIC when this hot-tasker came down. What a 96-hr reda55. Sing it with me.

Subject: FW: ***URGENT*** - DATA CALL FOR CNO DIVERSITY DISCUSSION

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am sorry for the short notice tasker, but we received this tasker from CNO's office late yesterday afternoon and it is due by COB today for a meeting the CNO has early next week and they need the data from every Command in our Domain. Please look at the tasker and fill out the information on the first page to the best of your ability, there are instructions for how to fill out the data on the worksheet itself. There is not enough time to come back through the TYCOM with all of your inputs so please respond directly to LCDR [REDACTED]from the OPNAV staff (located in the cc line) and cc me with your responses. I appreciate your immediate assistance in this matter and I am very sorry for the short suspense. Have a great day. V/R

[REDACTED],
Please forward this tasker to all of our Commands that are not on the NMCI network. Thanks.

Subject: ***URGENT*** - DATA CALL FOR CNO DIVERSITY DISCUSSION

SDWG Working Group Member,

Due to the diversity of membership in this group, I am going direct to you as your command's representative to this working group for this data call instead of through your front office. If you require this request to go through your front office please provide me POC information ASAP.

Please complete the first worksheet of the attached excel spreadsheet regarding Diversity investment, with the best information possible for your command's diversity organization by Close of Business Friday, 10 JUNE. Instructions are provided in the excel spreadsheet. Your command will only need to complete the first worksheet. Validated information from this request needs to be provided on Monday, 13 JUNE NLT 1200 for incorporation into the CNO's Diversity discussion that will occur on the 15th of June.

Thank you all for your input. The data you provide will help inform the discussion at the Diversity forum next week.

V/R,

William [REDACTED]

    Diversity: the Name goes On

    Before the Quality goes In.

(an appropriate motto for this Navy program, as well as for Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and many, many other entities. Process is the newest false god, and end Products matter less and less.)

Maybe scientific studies that show diverse organizations perform better than non-diverse organizations, and there are dozens of these studies that come to the same conclusion across all types of organizations, influence the thoughts of our military leadership.

So the Diversity Commissar's now circumvent the chain of command.  What else are they sending without inlcuding unit CO's?  Someone needs to needs to check William [REDACTED] LCDR USN's commission for legitimacy.  Me thinks it may have come by mail.

No wonder NMCI is so slow - with garbage taskers like this soaking up the precious bandwidth its a wonder any real administrative work gets done.

You know, in the middle of World War II ('43), a retired 30's era CNO came in and surveyed the aviation officers of the Pacific Fleet, directly, with I believe no notification of the chain of command, on how they felt things should be as far as who should have what kind of say in running the Pacific War--aviators or non-aviators.

Nimitz, when he found out, was not in the least bit happy about things going on behind his back, and said so, especially as they could be detrimental to good order and discipline. The retired Admiral eventually went back into retirement the next year.

Seems to me that William [redacted] needs a talking to. This kind of data may (or may not) need to be recorded, but if can never be conducted through anything but the proper channels. Commander to Commander. CNO to appropriate commanding officer, then down as needed. There is nothing about being involved with "diversity" that makes one immune to the idea that one is a military officer first, subordinate to others as appointed by the chain, and I wonder if that message is the one being put out. I have my doubts.

And for any wondering if I practice what I preach--I've been hamstrung at work the last week because I need to send some stuff out to others in the organization, but my immediate superior has been taking some time to look at it. So I wait for his okay to do so. Because it's his "command", not mine, and I don't want to sandbag. William [redacted] could take a lesson.

What happens if you don't do this tasker?  As the CO of the unit/ship/whatever you decide that training your guys in maintenance, DC, prepping for INSURV, marksmanship or fixing that which is broke, takes precedent, and you decide that in the pile of crap that is your life/job (balance) this is so minor and does not affect mission efficacy one bit so treat it as such.  Do they fire you?  Do you take them to court for an illegal order?  Soon, we may see this pop.

Just for grins, I copied'n'pasted the text of the message into MS Word.  The resulting file size just barely cracked 16kB.  Assuming there wasn't an instructional video attached to the message that bumped the size up to a couple of MB, if a 16kB message can bring NMCI to a crawl then y'all have serious problems ;) .

    Nobody ever said that.

Point is, the diversistazi spends all of its time celebrating differences.

In a military organization, that is lethal.

Ahem. Clearly Mister Misnomer ("Facts") is more than a little weak on the concept of "chain of command" and why it is essential to combat and other military effectiveness. Criticism of current policy is entirely a separate issue, much less criticism/analysis of current operations and current casualties. Likely a visitor from the land of the political left.

Military effectiveness is the constant concern of every competent military member.
Meritocracy, not quotas for promotion, is the surest road to military effectiveness for any given unit at any level within the DoD.

The Navy is one of the most factually diverse organizations on the planet, and at this late date could not be otherwise. I guess you don't get out to the fleet, or the waterfront,  or around the logistic and personnel support for both, much.

The current Diversity apparatchiks have nothing to do with any of this.  They waste time, misorder priorities and undermine the unit chain of command. It doesn't matter if their goal is more Slavic CO's or perfect spitshines on working shoes for deck working parties, they the means they use are deleterious to the Navy's readiness for prompt, sustained victorious combat operations at sea. Undermining the unit COs is the surest way to attack the combat effectiveness of their units.

Minorities? Doesn't matter when launching a boat in a rough sea, or serving a gun. It's all about an individual's performance of duty. Promotion and assignment must be on the same basis or the Navy and it's sailors suffer.

Women? Against women? Not damn likely, with the wife and daughters I have. Women at sea?  Well, there are some problems with discipline that accompany that.
No real solutions in the last 30 years. Mostly because Diversity Mafia insist there are no problems, can be no problems and shall be no problems.

If you don't want to solve problems as they appear, "Well, you should have joined the Air Force" (h/t - Gene Hackman). Presumably, they have none.  After all, they have such lovely flower beds. Since they change them out every time a 3 star or above visits the base, they can't have anything important to worry about.

I'm still laughing at the fact that the first time I saw you I thought for a second, "that's my wife's hair."

Sailors really shouldn't think of their wife when they see another Sailor from the back, and we weren't even four months in to a deployment either.   :-D

Then again, that could have just been my slavemaster mindset coming out.

Along those lines, after "Howlin' Mad" Smith relieved the commander of the Army's 24th Infantry Div. at Saipan for his division's lack of progress**, the commander of Army forces in the Pacific (i.e., "type commander") came out to make grief about the situation. Kelly "Terrible" Turner, commander of the Amphibious Force, accused the Army guy of trying to exercise "undue command influence" and basically told him to go pound sand. But at least the Army commander was an adminstrative commander, with the emphasis on the "in command" part. He wasn't a staff officer.

Speaking of the Army, my understanding (perhaps wrong), is that they have a better tradition when it comes to telling HQ staff (BDE, BN, DIV, etc) that they are doing improper tasking and need to work through it the right way. Like I said, could be wrong, since I'm taking my understanding of Army culture from limited data sources.

**I've seen the ground. Not easy to take. Still don't know if Smith made the right call or not. On the other hand, Saipan *was* taken.

    Facts,
The issue is not diversity.  We have it.  Everybody here would be glad to recruit in barrios, minority laden neighborhoods, etc.  What we WANT, nay, what the Navy NEEDS is to target all for recruitment, then promote everybody based on merit and capability.  Don't target racial and ethnic differences for promotion but the most qualified people.  NOBODY would have a problem w/ that.  Unless you are saying that minorities are lesser people, less capable and over the 40 or 50 years of civil rights have not gained any education or capabilities.  Do you think that Blacks, Philippinos or Hispanics are incapable of competing on a level playing field?  Are YOU racist?

Set the standard, hold the standard, train to the standard and it will all workout just fine.  If you argue against that then maybe you are just a "giant poopyhead."

Weekly diatribes against women?  I didn't get that memo...  oh, wait... I was busy making comments about the problems women cause ourselves too.

Ship full of women?  They might want to try it and while that might get rid of one set of problems, it'll sure as hell cause a whole different set of problems.

No one is against minorities, women, etc. here.  You must be new.  What everyone resents is the bean-counting mentality that numbers and proportions and mandatory programs take precedence when we're fighting.. what is it up to... 13 wars now?

    Greetings:

Back in my Psychology studying days, there was a bit of folk wisdom, or perhaps comedy, about the Rohrshach (ink-blot) test. Supposedly, your basic looney-tunes would look at the whole blot and report that s/he (Diversity Thursday, you know) saw a foot. When queried, the aforementioned (legal industry slur) would point to some little foot-like part of the ink-blot and say, "There!"

That's pretty much what that "Have a nice day" at the end of the e-mail reminded me of. "Have a nice day" ???  What part of military don't you understand.

That was the point I made previously about denying the order.  It smacks of an illegal order and is not in alignment w/ present law.  I take care of my Sailors and LOVE to see them excel and support the mission.  I have never thought that I should help any of them due to their skin color or reproductive organs.  THAT is a Fact!

'twas the 27th ID commander that Smith relieved. And I'm of the opinion that he was in the wrong.

As to the cultural differences between the Army and Navy... it is so apples and bicycles that no real comparison can be made.

Facts, if that is your real name, I beleive that Sid was quite cleary pointing out that everybody should consider themselves Shipmates of the Navy Blue variety first and foremost.  No gender, no race, no religious affillitation - just blue.  Cohesive blue.

<span>And how being inside the gate was such a wonderful respite...even though I was still generally the darkest person in the room? </span>

<span>Oddly enough though, I've grown more "white" (in a different era I would've claimed I could "pass" easier) as I've grown older.</span>

<span>"Racially, I seem to have (who knows for sure) seven blood mixtures: French, Dutch, Welsh, Negro, German, Jewish, and Indian. Because of these, my position in America has been a curious one. I have lived equally amid the two race groups. Now white, now colored. From my own point of view I am naturally and inevitably an American."</span>

What a load of horseshit.  The worst part is they are hammering our folks in the sandbox with crap like this.  Diversity / DEOMI surveys from home commands, ditto from NAVCENT and TF IA.  Nice distraction from the usual 18 hour days...NOT.

<span>While serving on active duty if ever saw the words "...I am going direct to you as your command's representative to this working group for this data call instead of through your front office" alarms and bells would go off with the likelihood on what was to follow was staffed at the wingnut level.  Sure enough, reading the rest of the e-mail confirms my original concern.

  47. No comment here.  I am officially listed as a "non-diverse" person by Navy Personnel Command.

The Cyber Forces Command Chief Diversity Officer who implemented the first domain wide DIVERSITY STRATEGY was not sufficiently 'diverse' in his operational assignments to earn promotion to Commander.  Justice has been served.  Let the band play on.

I don't care what the tasking is about.  No weenie in N00Z tasks anybody legitimately.  Last time I checked, tasking authority flows directly through individuals wearing Command pins, or in their absence then their Deputies with formally delegated authority.

Any officer who responds to this sort of direct staff request diminishes the principle of Command.  Any Commander who allows his staff to bypass the Chain of Command implicitly does the same.  Time for CNO to do his part in ensuring staffs get "back in the box" - Responsibility, Authority, and Accountability flow through Command and not through our bazillion 'N-Codes.'

Too many staff weenies nowadays seem to wear phantom stars on their collars because their Admirals allow them to act that way.  Here's hoping ADM Greenert will reinstill the discipline of Command in our bloated Shoreside Navy (not that I'm holding my breath).
