... and it made it to home plate even ....

Sigh.

Perfect? No. But ..... sigh.

Big deal-I just want to know when we can start hearing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" at the 7th inning stretch. That's a baseball tradition that needs to come back. Go Giants!

Who? The Clintons? The Kennedys? Oh wait. Perhaps Jesse Jackson and Jesse Jr. Or maybe Al (inventor of the internet and environmental scam artist) Gore and his far-left father. Maybe the Dodds? Chris and his father Tom, neither of which missed an opportunity for socialist reform, and the younger of which was chair of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs. (Financial crisis, anyone?)

    One other thing:

Dubya throws harder, is closer to the plate, and is less injury prone than Dice-K. Maybe the Red Sox should sign him.

I'm voting for Barney Frank and Maxine waters as destructive 'family' members. They are on camera in a hearing (2003ish), saying Fannie and Freddie are not a problem.

Say what you will about the last 7-10 years, but two destructive regimes are gone. Thank you President Bush. It's about time that America quit taking it on the chin, and gave it back.

So if Hillary gets the nod in 2012, and a USS Cole type attack happens again, does she send in the a)FBI b)CIA black ops teams c)the FLEET......? Scorr Rogers - say your peace.

And what did we get in their place? Oh yea, corrupt, non-functional governments that are rapidly becoming every bit as bad as what they replaced. They just need another 7-10 years to compete the process. Now add to that fact an Iran that is a problem and a terror threat that that has metastized across the globe. 5000 Americans dead and 30,000+ wounded.

    Heckuva of a job George.

There must be a hole in that drum by now, Skippy. You pound it at every opportunity.

    "How's the weather?"

    "George Bush is EVIL!"

"What is the quickest way to get to the highway?"

    "Iraq is lost!"

And now you tell us that ACORN is perfectly above-board because Adam Serwer says so.

    Lordy.

    Greetings:

I just loved both the accuracy and the effortlessness of "W's" pitch.

  13. xbradtc13:10

I mentioned this elsewhere the other day. Shortly after 9/11, W threw out a pitch, and it was a good solid, all-American looking throw. I thought to myself, "Every politician in America who wants to be President will practice throwing a baseball, just to avoid embarrassment."

Guess I got that one wrong...

  14. Jason13:19

Yes, we absolutely should ensure that every president is qualified to throw a baseball from the pitching mound of a major league baseball stadium. To hell with all that economic savvey, military expertise, and ability to interpret the Constitution...

I really don't understand the conservative swooning over this simple ceremony. You all have very short memories that must have blanked out everything after 2004.

  15. Actus Rhesus13:40

economic savvy like the knowledge that increased taxes on the working middle class, coupled with increased entitlement states is a piss poor way to keep china fromowning our country? Military expertise like oh...wait...do we even HAVE a strategy anymore? Ability to interpret the constitution by authorizing federally sanctioned extra judicial killings of US Citizens?

I'll take the guy who didn't do all that...AND could throw a decent curve ball.

Skippy - we both agree, war sucks.

That said - when you go to war, people die. Good people, bad people, the innocent. But what would you have done? So people who died in Iraq since the invasion, what about the people in Iraq who died because of Saddam's regime? Leave him in power to continue to throw people off of roofs? Shoot people who oppose him? All that stuff was okay?

I firmly believe our message over the last 10 years shouldn't have been - when are we going to leave, but instead, we are going to stay for 100 years. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it. And that is in fact what we are going to do. How long, since 1991, have we not had a carrier battle group in the area? How bout a big deck amphib, with cobra's and harriers, and 2,000 marines? I guarentee you that Iran is pissed that we are always there.

Iran's been a problem since 1979. We should've pulled a 'line of death' thing ala Libya, and shut them up for 30 years.

The Bush record was brought up by Scorr. I just wanted to make it a fairer fight when the resident bullies here showed up to beat him up. After all, God forbid someone would bring up an opinion contrary to the CW.

When it comes to the war in Iraq, you bet I pound the drum at every opportunity. The war was a profound mistake and one that will this nation will regret for years to come. And as I have pointed before-the effect it had on our economy has been grossly underestimated, and the damage that it has done to our overall national interest has been underestimated as well. I might forgive Bush for just about all of his other policies-but the war in Iraq is one that I will be a long time giving him forgiveness for.

Its makes for an interesting comparison. George Sr. was the last really good President the country had. He knew when to fold his cards, haul in the pot, and walk away from the table. He also understood-better than he gets credit for-the real dangers of not remaining focused on what is in the US interest. WRT he understood what a quagmire it was and wisely avoided it. He sucessfully managed the fall of the Warsaw Pact and made it happen without rubbing the Russians nose in it. He told his own party where to go on taxes.

His son, however, was not so wise-and so now we live the consequences of his carelessness. That he throws a good baseball compared to other folks matters not a whit. He cut taxes and started a second war when he had not even finished the first one. He doubled the debt more than Obama gets blamed for-and he created the preconditions for the politics we have today. Just think how much better the country would have been if he had stayed in baseball and not entered politics.

Is throwing a baseball a pre-requisite for office? No. But, I'm sorry to say, being an "ALPHA" is. While the Public School System and Democrats seek to turn our little boys into little girls, and blame every jock for every tragic suicide of young homosexuals (don't get me wrong, it is horrible but it is not the fault of every alpha kid), our enemies take those Alphas and cultivate them. You want your leader to look more like Teddy Roosevelt and less like Liberace. President Obama has run his entire political campaign as a "Cult of Personality." Except in his mind, and the mind of his followers, the desired persona is not rugged individualistic frontiersman educated compassionate ass-kicker; it is instead an urban sophisticate who enjoys the finer cosmopolitan things in life, dependent upon a telepromter for everything from a bed-time story to the pledge of allegiance, never short with a glib comment or a blame for his woes. Throwing a baseball shows that you are an American, that you are physically strong, and that you embrace the AMERICAN CULTURE (and baseball transcends race, folks). It wont make or break you, but when you are coming across as weak in everything from foreign policy to fixing the economy (and the FRENCH are accusing you of being a surrender monkey), it will kill your career.

    Wharf Rat,

What about the people who were getting thrown from the roofs? There are plenty of other places where that is happening and we are not invading there. So the "moral obligation " argument runs thin. The cold hard fact is that nations have to do what is in their long term national interest. And do the benefits outweigh the costs? In Iraq-whatever benefit we achieved in the short run have been wiped out by the costs to the nation in the long run. George Sr. understood that. George Jr not so much.

There is a big difference between maintaing a presence in the region and invading a soveriegn nation that had not attacked us for the express purpose of changing its government. The former has ample precedent in both history and international law, the latter had none (at least in US history).

Andrew Baecvich is right. Continual war is hastening our long term decline. If it is a choice between taking care of Americans or taking care of Arabs-I'll pick Americans every time.

    Salty,

You hit it on the head, my man. We all know that football and baseball are played by adolescent Nazis for the sole purpose of making the sissy kids feel bad and ostracising the non-achievers.

Keeping score and awarding success makes you a fascist. We are all winners for trying. It is discrimination to keep score.

(But they never seem to understand that the word "indiscriminate" has a negative connotation.)

When Obama was looking around for some "ass to kick", his advisors musta told him to try fighting Harry Reid. Vegas had Pelosi at 7 to 5 versus B Hussein, and Sarah Palin was a prohibitive favorite.

Gee, I thought we invaded Iraq because they wouldn't comply with UN sanctions. I mean the world watched us do it. Clinton said it was OK, Gore said it was OK, Nancy said it was OK. Even a couple of Kennedy's said it was OK.

As far as the rest of the world's ills, why not? 'cause Madelin wanted to fix the Balkins instead of resolving human tragedy in the dark continent. Policy set and hasn't changed. We leave UN/NATO to solve those ills. How's that program going?

So...when the terrorist turned President begins with his nuclear muscle backing up his threats and suicide bombers, we just need to put more TSA agents in charge, and station them at the doors of every mall, hall, and gathering place in America, becuse...we certainly don't want to piss anyone off...

After all, God forbid someone would bring up an opinion contrary to the CW.

Scary thing is that sometimes the conventional wisdom is true. Don't still your finger into a light socket; don't run with scissors, don't spend more than you make, and don't steal what you haven't earned. You know, 10th Commandment, and all that. Ironic, considering your "God forbid" shot.

You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.

...Which is the problem for people like Skippy, who have such a raging hard-on for "income equality." They do nothing but covet what the neighbor makes, since they think income inequality isn't "fair."

    ---

Both Bushes were Country-Club Republicans. Bush '41 couldn't wait to dump all the Reagan people, which is why Skippy likes him so much. Me, I can give credit where credit is due with respect to Clinton, even though I would not vote for him. But Skippy can't. He has to wave his knee-jerk political tribalism in the air, and disrespect anyone outside of his world-view.

I wasn't going to address this, but Skippy is full of BS when it comes to the national debt. For one thing, he singles out Gross debt instead of public debt; as of 2010 the difference is $13.442 trillion vs. $8.933 trillion. But I'ill give him that. Gross debt 2000: $5.628 trillion. As of 2008: $9.985 trillion. Not the "doubling" Skippy claimed before, but pretty big. (aside: public debt increase between those two dates: $3.409 trillion vs. $5.802 trillion. big difference) Total change in gross debt: $4.357 trillion. Here's the kicker: Gross debt roughly 18 months after Obama took office: $13.442 trillion. Total change in gross debt in 18 months: $3.457 trillion. (all numbers from Wiki US public debt)

Thing is, Skippy will shovel all sorts of fertilizer about how an extra $3.5 trillion over 18 months is nothing, or necessary, but the $4.4 trillion over eight years from Bush is some national fracking tragegy.

BTW, estimated Gross debt for 2012 (i.e. end of Obama's first term) is $16.565 trillion. Change in debt from 2008: $6.58 trillion, or more than the entire national debt of the year 2000. After only four years. Yet Skippy has the chutzpah to call out the Bush '43 administration for financial responsibility.

Bottom line: Skippy believes in the redistribution of wealth (against the will of 95% of this country), is dishonest about how he presents his case, and trolls against the people who don't agree with him.
