Why Greene?

Our buddy Ed asks a simple question concerning the Democrat's Senate candidate and the man he beat in the primary, Vic Rawl.
The biggest loser in this debacle, however, is Vic Rawls (sic), Greene’s primary opponent. How did a former judge and a Democratic Party leader lose to Greene — by over thirty thousand votes?
OK, I'll say it. Though I believe that Ed knows the answer - I'll go through the motions anyway. He's a Yankee - he needs help here.

I proudly stand here today with zero Yankee blood in my veins. About as far North as by bloodline strayed was to Kentucky in the 1830s, and most of my blood comes from one of the longest family lines in Mississippi - pre-statehood Mississippi .... and they came west from South Carolina. As we say in unguarded moments amongst ourselves, "I's knows muh people."

First, you need to understand the Democrat Party in S.C. From PoliticsDaily,
Blacks spell Greene with an "e" on the end, and the average voter in a South Carolina Democratic primary is a black woman. Also, Greene's name appeared above Rawl's on the ballot and the name Rawl sounds like white Charleston aristocracy. Most voters didn't know who Greene or Rawl was and Rawl didn't campaign enough to earn high name recognition even though he certainly campaigned very hard throughout the state. A massively uninformed electorate chose the name Greene over Rawl and it's just that simple...

Kevin Gray, a prominent black activist and author in South Carolina, says he voted for Greene. "When I was in the voting booth I looked at both those names," he says. "I'd seen Vic Rawl on Facebook before, but Alvin Greene, that name looked black."
Sectarian politics at its worst. The ability to do a job isn't what is important - it is the color of your skin. A Representative Republic does not function well when voters have a sectarian mindset. If you wonder why I rail against the Diversity Industry and the race pimps, from the CNO on down, this is in the Top-5. It. Is. A. Cancer.

Anyway, South Carolina is about
30% black. Democrats and Republicans are roughly evenly split % wise Very few blacks in South Carolina are Republicans. With a wide margin of error - you can safely say that in the Democrat primary, at least 51% of the Democrat voters were black.

Sadly, you can also do this to make it simple.

Alvin Greene.

Vic Rawl.

If you have a better reason, let me know. You can pretend that it was alphabetical if you want. Ponder some AFDB Rethuglican plot if you must. But the truth is simple and to the post. It is racism in its purest form.

The Attorney General called Americans cowards on the subject of race - well, I am just trying to prove him wrong. I'll talk about it any day.

Race based voting; sometimes, it gets your results like this. If you don't like it - then turn away from sectarianism. Oppose it in every form you find. Go for a color-blind culture of unity, not division. Oppose sectarianism at home, work, and in your circle of friends. Don't let others promote sectarianism - call them out - even if they are your friend, family member, or your Chief of Naval Operations.

The irony is that the Congressional Black Caucus is all up in arms.  Why the Black on Black hate brothers?  You fight for recognition solely based on skin color (just look at your group's name) and you get upset when one gets elected that is well, um, not the best and brightest.  While is speaking capability is less than enthusiastic and does not show he is a stellar intellect, at least the young man did not say Guam would capsize.  I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'.

We need election reform.  I think we need to Amend the Constitution that only LANDOWNERS can vote.  There I said.

This is a hot mess that highlights the failing of the Navy Diversity push... you really can get there on the color of your skin alone....  that is the only qualification.

Oh yea one more thing, seems like the SC dem party is questioning the intelligence and mental capacity of Mr Greene to hold office...  that is some dirty pool.

Yeah, but Phib, it's the GOOD kind of racism.  And we all know we can end racism by treating people differently because of the color of their skin.

Holder says we are cowards on the subject of race.  Holder is a coward on the subject of race.

    <span>Hey MTH,

    URR,

I hear you, but the election for Obama in 08 had two rental houses on my street and both had Obama campaghn signs in the yard.  Those renters also got to vote on the many county and state ballot initiatives and guess what?  They are gone now... moved on...

We need to find the balance.  Of Course Military get a vote by nature of their gypsy shoes.  but all others should own property.  It grounds and binds to the community.

I totally concur - universal suffrage with an ignorant electorate is deadly to liberty.

However, any attempt to restrict the right to vote to porperty owners, tax payers, and veterans will be decried as racist.

With nothing more than the pictures to base my vote on, I already think more highly of Greene than Rawl.  One dude looks clean-cut, while the other looks like a Career(ist) Politician.  Then again, I'm somewhat prejudiced against hippie haircuts and the narcissists who wear them  :) .

Seriously though, it's not too big of a stretch to predict that a lot of career politicians will lose primaries this year to folks with absolutely no political resumes whatsoever.  Untrained, inexperienced novices can't do much worse than the party-first crooks who have systematically been wrecking our institutions for years... nothing necessarily racist in the current momentum to reject party insiders.

The biggest surprise I see is that a more compelling candidate didn't find the opportunity to run (and win) in this rare window of opportunity for poitical "outsiders."

500 years.  500 years ago our first black citizens came to this country.  145 years ago they were emancipated, 50 years ago or thereabouts the Civil Rights act was passed and two years ago the first black president was elected.  So exactly when does the mark of slavery wash off a people?  Ask the Poles.  Ask the Indians.  Ask the Chinese.  Ask the Koreans.  Ask the Vietnamese.  Ask the Cambodians.  Eventually you have to stop making excuses and get to work, or resign yourself to be a self appointed second class citizen.  Mayor Fenty in Washington, a black man, is not going to be elected this year because he doesn't make excuses.  He doesn't look to "the man" as the cause of the black community's woes.  He solves problems and doesn't hand out goodies like DC's favorite mayor, Marion Barry.  GIMP, you make me sick.

I believe that nobody should be able to vote on increasing property taxes without actually owning property.  That is a simple tenant of our republican government system.  YOU HAVE TO HAVE SKIN IN THE GAME!

  20. As a "trained political scientist" (cough) in one of my former post-USAF lives, I should make the technical note that numerous studies have shown that having one's name first on the ballot (or at least ahead of ones main opponent) DOES indeed have a measurable effect /advantage. Although in this instance that fact was merely icing on the cake.

A little more respect for the highly experienced, if you please, Byron.  It isn't as if he was an airdale or something.

The thing is, if blacks never vote for a white republican, white republicans never try to win their votes, so blacks never vote for them.  Hmm, might be a pattern.

Except that I rent a house, and pay the property taxes on it. Oh, the property tax check has my landlord's name on it, but it's MY cash backing it up. Every time the taxes go up, my rent goes up to match it. It's the same for every renter. The property taxes are a part of the rental cost, just like his mortgage and insurance payments, etc. It all gets factored in.

No, the FIRST step in revamping voting ought to be a voter's ID card that you can only obatin by proving citizenship and providing a picture to go on it, along with a thumb print. No ID card, no vote.

I can remember when "Irish need not apply" was the rule. Ok, not personally. :)

Gator elucidates a major point. The list of the oppressed in this country is both long & distinguished. And -just to mollify the Permanently Indignant- even if you date the advance of black Americans from the Civil Rights Act, that's still fifty years of opportunity. Look back at those Gator specifies, and tell me about "disgusting treatment."

Why do I have the feeling that GIMP has never set foot south of the Mason-Dixon line?

John Mcwhorter, a Black linguistics professor at Stanford (I think) wrote two books.  Winning and Losing the Race.  Pretty good observations of the meme of Black victimhood and how it holds back the race rather than furthers the race.
