Mom, we'll call it even

Nice.
Clint Dempsey scored on a blunder by goalkeeper Robert Green in the 40th minute, and the United States came from behind to tie England 1-1 in the Americans' World Cup opener Saturday.

Steven Gerrard put England ahead in the fourth minute, blowing past Ricardo Clark to beat goalkeeper Tim Howard from short range.

But Dempsey tied the score when his 25-yard shot skipped off the grass twice and bounced in off Green's hand, yet another in a long line of shocking gaffes by England goalkeepers. It made Dempsey only the second American to score in two World Cups, joining Brian McBride.

The result was a thrill for the U.S. and a disappointment for England, which is looking for its first World Cup title since 1966.

Tim Howard had a helluva game, as did Jay DeMerit (shutting down Rooney).

Saw a FOXNEWS sarcastic comment that Obama was probably calling the PM to apologize for our arrogance in tying England...funny...

  3. That's just silly.  He is not cordial or aplogetic to our allies.  It is only those that are basically our competitors.  Now if he apologized to Iran for being good enough to tie England, now that is more in line.  Or maybe sending a beta tape of Victory w/ Michael Caine and Pele to the Queen.  He has a history of crapping on our allies.

I'll hoist a beer and stand a round for all supporters of all group C teams (virtual round I'm afraid - pint glasses don't go well with airmail)
Here at least is a nice, less antagonistic, view of Anglo-US relations than those aired amongst the politicians & media recently.

Draw means UK and US ambassadors will split the bill

They don't use their hands either. Might damage their nail polish.  ;)

Have to agree with guest, I'd rather watch people fish; troll in fact. When the last kid hung up the soccer cleats in 3rd grade, a huge sigh of relief.

Clearly you have never been in an expat bar in Asia during a major match-a great reason to drink beer and hit on women! Soccer has it uses although I would rather watch Rugby given a choice.

Germany looks scary good though.  4-0 against the Aussies.
