Public AffairsHere is a fun leadership drill or two. Have a Molly O'Mally or Erika Svenberg ... or better yet Rose Liebowitz want to send in an application. They tell them they won't win. "Why? " They will ask. You respond, "Because you don't have the right ethnic background." They have them respond, "So, that Navy is supporting an organization with TAD money that discriminates on the basis of race, creed, color and/or national origin?" Then you say, "Yes." Then give her a the hotline number. Not that she will find a willing ear at the IG's office - but it will be a fun drill.

Another fun drill. Have your "Admin O" run the numbers on the TAD costs - especially you Hawaii, C5F AOR and Japanese units. Run that by what schools you cannot send Sailors to because of funding shortfalls. Bring that up at the next CNO call - ask him what the priority is.
Be prepared to throw up a little in your mouth.
As for the message; let me play N1.
- When did we stop using colons introducing a bullet list?
- When did we stop using periods in bulleted lists?
The funny part is the artificial construct that is "Latino/a." About as accurate and rational as the Aryan German.
I only regret that I as a white male (albeit one who is bilingual Spanish) am no longer on active duty so that I can send in my paperwork to try for the award. Might use a different photo though. The one of Johnny Cash flipping the bird comes to mind...
ReplyDeleteSo, Phib, I gotta ask.
ReplyDeleteHow will you write in 2011 about the "Gay Times Magazine" distinguished Gay Service Awards Nominees?
Of course I will ... right after I finish your nom package for the " 'Right Said Fred' Memorial Big, Bald, Burley Bear in the Service Award." :*
ReplyDeleteAs I was literally leaving, my box with pictures in hand, my newly reported Bosses relief (got to love just in time manning) called me into his office. He was hand wringing on this nomination my relief and his division submitted. He read the Sailors name to me and wanted to know what I thought. I told him well she is hispanic, or at least her last name sounds like it. He then wanted me to "beef" it up. I laughed as I said I gotta run... have fun with that... what a crock of poo......
ReplyDeletePretty soon we have so much exceptionalism from the ranks no one can do anything with out demanding a medal...
And I DIDNT participate in the race based awards process either...
ReplyDeleteThese are all second place awards to people that cant get selected on merit for SOY or SOQ in my opinion...
I'm... too sexy for my hair... too sexy for my hair...
ReplyDeleteMost Marines are. That's why they make them shave it off.
ReplyDeleteC'mon, guys... being a wise Latina is the in thing now!
ReplyDeleteI don't see why you have a problem with giving people awards just because one of their parents happened to be Hispanic or something. Geez....
(Though to me, it sounds like they're being rewarded for overcoming that "handicap." I mean... no one gives you an award for something that comes easy, right? So in effect, it's kind of an insult to have these Hispanic Lady Trophies, if you really think about it.... "Here, ma'am, is your prize for managing to be literate, functional and competent in the Navy in spite of your ethnic background" just doesn't have the same ring to it....)
I just vomited in my mouth. Funny how we're wasting TAD money in a time where Sec. Gates stressed the need to cut nonessential expenditures in order to meet the rising costs of fighting two wars over in CENTCOM>
ReplyDeleteFrickin' right on. This is what I"m talking about when I say we are damning races of folks to being "second class citizens" for life.
ReplyDeleteTo quote Chris Rock, "he speaks so well is a compliment that you give to a mentally retarded person who can string a few words together, not a college educated four-star general [Colin Powell]."
And I was the only "Non-minority" in the conversation that they wanted to "beef it up"... irony...
ReplyDeleteYoure burning my retinas with that image dude...
ReplyDeleteMore Bu11$h!t from the diversity empire builders.
ReplyDeleteADM Harvey- I would like to nominate some billets to be converted to sea duty. With adequate supervision and some overtime if necessary, these clowns might be trained to do useful work like paint chipping and bilge diving, and maybe even mess cranking. If nothing else, that would free up some REAL sailors to do something taking more skill than what these idiots are doing now.
If they want to send some "hot Latina" somewhere TAD, then take up a collection from anyone who cares to pay for it instead of canceling some essential school that will save lives and ships.
Wretched filth. Behold the diverse suck. Friggin TAD wasters.
ReplyDeleteSo, if I went to Mexico, or pulled liberty in Rota and Palma and was styling (and I was, big time...at least in my mind) can one nom theirself?
Feb. 2007 on Obama's appeal: "I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean that's a storybook, man."
ReplyDeleteSo sayeth the Vice President of these United States, about his (now) boss.
Tell me again why Hairplugs Joe hasn't been relieved? Never mind, we know he's a Useful Idiot.
A typewritten, single-spaced narrative in Microsoft Word (not to exceed one page) describing the nominee's accomplishments that support the LATINA Style award criteria
ReplyDelete
...and what, exactly, would those criteria be? I've looked all over http://nls.latinastyle.com/ and don't see anything which estabishes said criteria....but there was no shortage of diversity mafia-approved propaganda.
I did find another TDY/TAD sucking opportunity from the same group, though:

Why to I suspect that Judy O'Grady, a natural red head and naturalized US Citizen, of the Buenos Aires O'Gradys (or perhaps O'Higginses?) wouldn't make the cut, but Maria Garcia, of the Kayenta, (Navajo Reservation) Arizona Garcias (and a matrilineal Navajo clan), who got her Spanish in high school and speaks Navajo at home to her Grandparents, would?
ReplyDeleteBecause she has the right last name and looks like a "latina"?
By the way, which is more "hispanic", the two ladies postulated, or a Puerto Rican Irish Polish Cambodian girl from Fargo, ND? How DO you measure that?
I'm with Morgan Freeman...just quit talking about it and take every human being as an individual.
Even if a lot of "Reverend"s and Dr's might have to give up the $6000 suits and summer houses and pastor a church or carry a 4 class teaching load at State U. for 60 grand a year.
Assuming they could find a gig.
A buddy of mine is African-American - has a passport from an east African country. His grandfather immegrated there from the UK and his mother from Sweden. I keep trying to count him as an African-American for board diversity purposes, but with limited success. One of my assistants was born in Rhodesia and became a naturalized US citizen a few years ago. Her grandfather originally immigrated there from Scotland. I have had only limited success in counting her as an African-American, too. Don't beleive them when they say it is about culture. The people keeping track of this stuff would make the old South African regime proud.
ReplyDeleteThe thing that is really maddening is... it all depends on which parent is the minority. If your mom's last name is Sanchez and dad is a Smith, you're hosed. But if dad is a Martinez and mom is a Rockefeller... you're in.
ReplyDeleteLT on our FFG was blond and from S. Africa. He took great glee in saying he was the only REAL African American onboard. Good stuff.
