Never in the history of civilization has a society or an organization prospered by forcing a world view on its members that wants them to focus on what makes them different - not what unifies them.
Shame. Shame. Shame. Leaders feeding division; feeding sectarianism in the ranks; enabling hate. Shame

Here are some others represented by a law firm Holland and Knight.Reflect America? Reflect your Navy? Even if you buy into the cancer of a racialist world-view, this sure doesn't reflect USA in 2040.
Affinity Groups
Through the firm’s seven Affinity Groups, our diverse lawyers and staff are able to address the distinct challenges and opportunities that arise as a result of our differences. By promoting and encouraging members, the Affinity Groups help to sustain an environment that is inclusive and supportive, which fosters both personal and professional success. Our Affinity Groups have helped to distinguish Holland & Knight through the visibility and opportunity extended to members.
The firm’s Affinity Groups are as follows:
African American Affinity Group
Asian/Pacific Islander Affinity Group
Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) Affinity Group
Gay, Lesbian Or Bisexual Employees (GLOBE) Affinity Group
Hispanic Affinity Group
Native American Affinity Group
Women’s Initiative
Kind of like building concrete without aggregate - and just as effective.
All these infinity groups looks like segragtion to me.
ReplyDeleteNews about women serving on board submarines is now on the table!
ReplyDeleteAn embrace of sectarianism. Yep, that builds esprit de corps. Steep everybody in the Navy and Marine Corps. Make them proud of our history, give them the resources and training to fulfill good missions supporting and defending the Constitution and fight up on the hill for our civilian leadership to understand the military, understand our people, capabilities, love of country and patriotism. Stop w/ this crap and focus on hard stuff that keeps the country safe. Want diversity? Be a true meritocracy. Additionally, reach out to grade schools. Start early. Provide leadership in the community, give role models. Teach, help. If you are starting at 18 and above, it is too late and you are lowering standards. We can not get around the fact that many minorities are under performing scholastically. Address those reasons why and it will get better. The percentage that is doing well, is also desired by the civilian industry. It is a finite pool.
ReplyDeleteWhat a truly wonderful use of diminishing budgets... NOT!!! >:o
ReplyDeleteHey, when do we get a fair-skinned, red haired, Italian-American affinity group? That's about as small a minority group as you will find!

<span>Bunch of Racist Bullshit if you ask me.</span>

ReplyDelete"Affinity".... you know I have an affinity also. Mine is for 15 (min) year old Scotch and Cuban Cigars... Losers.
ReplyDeleteMine is for hot naked women, but I, actually, don't want them on the ships. Too distracting and far too many problems. i also have an affinity for good food.

ReplyDeleteSounds like a definition that's designed to confuse people and lose their attention spans...thereby evading the blunt truth.
I will save this NAVADMIN for the next time I can't send someone to training because of lack of TAD funds. Attachment #1 to my Proceedings article. The last thing the navy needs is more parochialism.
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm a little confused... this year's focus is on the families. What will they say to those poor schmuck families whose paycheck is dependent on...white males.
ReplyDeleteAny chance for a tequila-swiller's affinity group?
ReplyDeleteWhy can't someone just say.....no?
ReplyDeleteWhy does defending our country have anything to do w/this crap?
You either can do the job, or you can't.
BTW - I have an affinity for the fetching Mrs. Wharf Rat - the MILF.
"Elevated focus".....Kind of like elevated blood pressure I suppose.
ReplyDeleteThe gutless "leaders" who promote, participate or merely tolerate this sort of crap are clearly terrified at the thought of being called "RACIST!!!!" if they were to speak the truth and put an end to this worthless crap.
ReplyDeleteAnd these are the "leaders" who are in charge of taking troops into combat and sending ships into harms way?
Each new message full of this crap undermines unit cohesiveness, radiness and common sense.
But, it advances the diversity industry and balkanization of our country.
Shame on them all. They are destroying our Navy, Marine Corps and country.

ReplyDeleteA direct warning I'd say....
Yes, agree. Pretty sad at the overall brainwashing propaganda with this PC Diversity BS and dribble.
ReplyDeleteThe "Pussification" and "Neuterization" are in full swing.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that they're not going to "plus up" folks' Command Travel Funds indicates to me that this message is more for show than for anything else. By July my TADTAR account was pretty much allocated or gone.
ReplyDelete"XO, we don't need to send anyone to this thing do we?"
sid, The video just gave me a nasty flashback to my youth living in the SF Bay Area hills where those things would get into our garage occasionally. I dispatched more than one with a shovel.
ReplyDelete1. How does Roughead face himself in the mirror every morning?
ReplyDelete2. tell your WASP-ish/mixed breed JO's to join every "affinity group" they can find. And if they are denied entrance/admission/participation, contact the nearest EEO/JAG asap.
Wow. I can't get a frickin message released that actually has to do with WARFIGHTING because of MINIMIZE, and yet we are blasting racism over the frickin' ether with a "Minimize Considered" tag. Priceless.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Webb. FIRE HALF THE ADMIRALTY!
Boot lickers have been around for awhile. They hide behind the PC Diversity sham and fraud but they lack genuine leadership substance. Just boot lickers.
ReplyDeleteWas wondering about that myself...
ReplyDeleteTells you volumes about Roughead's priorities.
here's the thing...there are challenges to being a minority in the service that make people want to seek out mentors who "look like them" to give advice and guidance through the early years. Example...a male CDR whom I respect GREATLY was giving me advice on future billets (great advice I might add) but looked a bit embarrassed when he rattled off high speed job after high speed job and I had to point out to him that at *some* point I would need about...say...nine months of shore billet. So I get the desire to pair people with mentors who are more aware of the challenges out there. However, I don't recall ever needing a freaking conference to find one. I just looked around, found women I respected and thought were neat and in places I myself hoped to be some day, and I asked them if they'd mind giving a JO some advice over lunch some time. These people have been huge in influencing my career decisions, and they're the kind of people I WANT because they are too busy being shit-hot Naval Officers to waste their time at some stupid diversity conference. (And I bet if a male JO asked for help, they'd do the same thing!) The best mentors are the ones you find on your own.
ReplyDeleteRoger that. Our command wanted to start a formalized mentor program. I wrote that it never works as well as true leaders taking care of their people, and juniors feeling comfortable enough to talk with them. If they provide leadership through example, take care of their people and foster an environment of honesty, then usually all that stuff shakes itself out in the end. And, to be honest, I like my CoC. I've never felt I couldn't talk w/ the officers around me. Those I like, I approach, those I don't, I don't ask advice of. It really is that simple. I even ping on one of my old bosses who is retired from time to time.
ReplyDelete"<span>..nine months of shore billet..<span>"</span></span>
ReplyDeleteIf you can pick your timing. Life - especially after age 25 or so - often doesn't give you that luxury.
And yes, as a man - a married man with children - I can make that comment. It is one, sadly, that is not said enough from men or women to our female shipmates.
It. Ain't. Easy.
If only there was this much attention to warfighting and shipbuilding.
ReplyDeleteI see no problem with this.
ReplyDeleteThe way to end racism is to treat people differently because of skin color.
To make sure everyone is treated equally, we must champion the rights of some over others.
I just want to know if there will be similar command support for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender officers' association. There will be one if there isn't one now.
Well, this WILL reflect America. The politics of preference will make sure our society is fragmented, bitter, and restive. Then, anyone not affiliated with a government-approved "affinity group" will be declared a "violent extremist" and subject to immediate forfeiture of all rights.
If he believes his own propaganda, wouldn't he pick a "diversity" candidate and get The WON to approve his turnover and resignation?
ReplyDeleteMaybe he only believes it enough to keep his seat at the big table.....
Leadership by example....time for a gut check
Only way I am paying 375.00 clams is if the Rev Sharpton and Jackson theysleves show up..
ReplyDeleteTell me about it. The way it's shaping out, my kids are getting planned three years in advance. But if you want it, you make the sacrifices you need to in order to get it. As with everything else in life.
ReplyDeleteWell, Holland & Knight is a lawfirm!
ReplyDeleteI think it's playing into stereotypes that there is both an LGBT and a GLOBE group.
Hey 'phib -- I think the garden needs some weed pulling...
ReplyDeletew/r SJS
The Navy of a nation at war doesn't waste time on BS like this. The fact that Roughhead is wasting his resources on BS tells me he is not a war time CNO.
