The secretary of the Army announced today that the Army will provide combat uniforms in the MultiCam pattern to all soldiers deploying to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, starting this summer. If TFU didn't AFU - then we could ride with the Army here.
This decision follows a rigorous four-month evaluation and reflects the Army's commitment to giving soldiers in Afghanistan the most effective concealment possible.
Soldiers deploying to Afghanistan this summer will receive fire resistant Army combat uniforms in MultiCam, along with associated equipment including body armor, rucksacks, and helmet covers.
Once again: go MultiCam is THE answer. We could easily go from 8 camo uniforms to one ... all it would take is smart leadership that is willing to admit its mistakes.
Hat tip Chap.

ReplyDeleteFat chance.
Same applies to shipbuilding and the wasteful diverstiy diktators.
I don't see that happening anytime soon, either.
ReplyDeleteBlasphamey! NO WAY a uniform is fielded without gender bender wear testing and multi-cultural opinions of comfort and style... NO WAY... OH THE HUMANITY!!!!!!! TFU... DO SOMETHING!!! Hey at least we have cool dress Khaki!
ReplyDeleteThe Army does do deploying troops right with uniforms. The ACU's in CONUS are not fire retardent so troops can get fire retardent deployment uniforms for free. That's a considerable savings for the Soldier since these issued uniforms are just going to get trashed downrange. I recently had an opportunity to see our digi-smurf in action in an expeditionary environment and it was awful. Granted this uniform (using the term loosely) was "designed" for shipboard use it was considerably hotter than ACU or MARPAT. the buttons were often falling off and the dumb blue pattern made Sailors stand out, but not in a good way. The boots looked like cr@p because they showed dirt and dust and couldn't be kept clean because of the environment. The NWU also has a fat boy expand-o-matic waistband. The ACU has a drawsting up front to allow you to tighten the waist of the pants as you get skinny from humping a ruck over God's creation. NWU has a fat boy expanding waistband so you don't have to buy new trousers after all those trips through the kripsy kreme drive thru on the way to work. Culture of fitness, please.
ReplyDeleteNow if only we could get rid of all the @#!! vecro on the ACUs...
ReplyDeleteWhoever made the decision to buy the ACU needs to be shot. Now the government has to spend even more money to buy body armor, etc in Multicam and we have ACU stuff just laying around. I'm not against the Multicam idea, I just think they just should have gone with it in the first place.
ReplyDeleteAnd referring to our lovely smurf uniforms (which I am holding out against buying until they are absolutely required), I did see the waistband when I was walking through the NEX the other day. Seriously? Now our people can get even more rotund without having to buy new uniforms. I'm not bitter, I promise.

Well, yeah, obviously, cammies is cammies. They should be designed to make the wearer hard to see in whatever environment, not so much to look cool and make a big point about whether one is Marine, or Sojer, or Sailor, Airman, etc. I think the new Navy cammies will definitely make it hard to see you if you fall overboard while wearing them. Is the AF still going ahead with the crazy blue-tinted cammies?
ReplyDeleteOh, Pogue, I concur. We had those "Lift-the-dot" fasteners on equipment back in, I think, 1917? They were quiet, and worked when muddy.
ReplyDeleteJohn:
ReplyDeleteWe can wait and hope......until the kids grow up and provide it. The current crowd isn't showing one old grump anything.
"Army WIN, Epic FAIL Navy."
