Let's do a quick review of the "cutting edge" forces UNCLAS web pages from the Central Command, or CENTCOM AOR (CENTCOM has a very good page BTW). Please note, I am only looking at this from a presentation POV. All have good info, but if your pate looks like a pile of runny puppy poo, no one is going to taste it.
Commander U.S. Naval Forces Central Command.
The focus shot on the front page is a N00 vanity moment. I respectfully submit that a CUSNC is about the mission, the ships and the Sailors. Perhaps the COS should recommend that one keep their mug to the bio section. Give the front page to the fleet.
The inside sections have this photo. Frankly, I don't care if it is a female. It is the angle and the non-action shot. No offense to the HC folks, but having a cargo pilot holding a helmet in a non-desert flight suit just doesn't give the "We are the cutting edge of the Navy's war on Islamofascism." Not to mention the fact that right now I see lots of people in white vests yelling their heads off...
Let's to the Army side of the house. U.S. Army Central. Solid page from ARCENT. Shows the multi-hat job. Nice angry Eagle. Unlike the CUSNC page, it likes FireFox. Sold.
Zommie time. U.S. Air Forces Central Command. A little busy over at CENTAF. Too many words (I know, brave comment coming from me) to dig through right away. Big beef; the image is of F-15 and F-22 - neither of which are doing much of anything (except for the F-15E...but that is a two-seater) in the battle. Tells you who is running the USAF, doesn't it. Would it hurt to throw in a A-10? Somewhere? Only slightly better than the Navy page.
What is the Corps doing? MARCENT has lots of pictures of people receiving awards, hunting bad guys and pictures of what looks like a BBQ with cake, hot dogs, chicken, and pugil sticks. No, I am not making that last part up. Uncluttered and direct. Just like we want our Marines. A very holisitic site. Well done.
Sadly, my look about has Army, Marines, AirFarce (in that order) all coming ahead of CUSNC. Love you guys, and you have some great stories to tell, but put your artistic folks in J6 for a couple of months.
One last thing, if I may. The Army site is also quite Joint. Take their Feature photo of the day. Here it is.
